The beauty of theatre photography is that the memories never expire, and our recent production of A Christmas Carol is no exception. Capturing the magic of this timeless story of redemption and restoration was an incredible honor. The cast didn’t just perform—they delivered an unforgettable experience, bringing every heartfelt moment to life with athleticism and humor. Night after night after night.

Looking back at these moments with the troupe reminds me why I love what I do. We may have said goodbye to the production and the cast, but we'll never say goodbye to their artistry on our beloved stage 📸✨

There’s something so grounding about working with clay—getting messy and creating something unique. I’m just giddy about my upcoming handbuilding class at in a few weeks. I may turn out a personal masterpiece or two, but more than that, I’m looking forward to being creative in a class setting and letting my mind rest and recharge. A perfect way to celebrate the first few weeks of the new year.

I've looked at 2024 as a terrible year for months and months. There was also joy and special memories in those 12 months. Creating this video montage was cathartic for my soul, healing another small part of my heart and helping me see more than sadness.

Grieving is agony, but I'm not alone in it. Millions of people before me have said goodbye to their mom. These last few weeks of heavy tears have laid the foundation for getting brave enough to remember joy, to chase it, to share it, and to cherish it.

2024 included a trip to California, time in Kentucky, a weekend staycation in Charlottesville, kitchen adventures with my kids and momma, diamond art, watercoloring, early morning coffee talks, track meets, planting a garden (we'll do better in 2025), taking a pottery class with (couldn't recommend this enough), creating a home studio, endless fun with the troupe and creative team at , creating content for to share their incredibly hard and crucial mission, and building a relationship with and while falling in love with product photography and houseplants.

It's been a year. I may not rejoice in all of it, but I'm not angry. I'm genuinely grateful for the blessings that came my way. With both gratitude and grief, I say goodbye to 2024.

I’m a memory collector. When my mind fails to remember details, I go back and look at all the memories I’ve captured with my camera. This was our first Christmas as newlyweds in our new house–we spent time playing family games, eating family meals, having a Christmas tea, and laughing so hard while we were present with each other. This is the first Christmas without her.

I was praying on the way to Costco this week that I would find the energy to rejoice in the birth of Jesus while being so filled with grief. It’s a hard balance. But I know momma is celebrating her first Christmas with Him so I can celebrate it here.

I know I’m not the only one who is missing the could-have-been moments that should’ve happened this season. It’s a journey we will all face at some point. If it’s not your journey yet, go grab your camera and collect some memories and work so hard to be present.

If you’re feeling what I’m feeling, let’s go grab a coffee and a hug.

I’m not sure I could ever put into words how much this girl means to me. She’s been the heart and soul of our wedding business, holding everything together with such grace, kindness, and patience when 2024 threw challenges my way. While I was caring for momma and now as I navigate crazy grief, she’s the glue that held our business together with ease and unwavering dedication, all without being grumpy.

To know Katie is to love her. Not only is she the best business partner ever, but she’s one of the most kind, laidback, flexible people I know. Here’s to celebrating YOU today—your heart, your spirit, and everything you do for everyone around you.

These women. These six women do incredibly amazing and hard things as they fight to prevent child sexual abuse.

Yesterday, we celebrated the forensic nurse exam room, a safe and beautiful space where children don’t have to go to the hospital to be examined. A place where Augusta Health forensic nurses perform trauma-informed medical exams for children who have endured abuse.

As if I didn’t already know what these women do, I listened as they explained the purpose of each of the eight survivor rooms on an educational behind the scenes tour.

It’s an honor to see them in action, to understand the profound impact they have on children, and to witness the hope they are able to offer even in the face of such unimaginable pain. They are saving lives, one family at a time.

Today is the first time we don’t get to hear your voice on your birthday. It’s a terrible feeling.

You would have liked knowing that I went to work anyway, that Gian Riley started indoor track this week and got his license today, and that I made your tapioca pudding for dessert and put it in the prettiest pink glasses in my cabinet.

I listened to your favorite songs today and read your favorite scriptures. I looked at photos and worked on celebrating you by concentrating on our happy and funny family memories. It’s just not the same.

I had the opportunity to photograph three incredible women who provide compassionate care, bridge the gap between healthcare and justice, and give a voice to those in vulnerable situations.

This week is Forensic Nurse Week. It wasn’t until three years ago, when I started working with , that I learned what a forensic nurse was. They are the heroes who bring compassion and expertise to those impacted by trauma and violence as they work on the frontlines of healthcare and justice.

Forensic nurses play a crucial role in:
🩺 Assisting survivors of trauma and violence
🩺 Collecting evidence and conducting medical examinations
🩺 Supporting victims of abuse and assault with dignity and respect
🩺 Support and guidance through the legal process for victims
🩺 Educating communities on violence prevention and advocacy

Momma loved Jesus. And, more than loving Him, she lived out that love. I’ve always said the best gift you can give a kid is the gift of Jesus. She gave us that gift. Jesus doesn’t make us perfect on this side of eternity, but living out a life of (and in) faith gives us a goal to work toward—kindness, generosity, joy, gratitude, and an approach to life’s ups and downs with prayer. She never stopped praying over the people she loved.

We gave Momma back to Jesus. Man it was hard, but in the end, it’s the only place she needed to be. This world of ours goes super fast and I’m gonna treasure every minute I got to spend with her these last ten months.

I love you, Momma.
