One year ago with these sweet lovers

We never interrupt our couple from their celebration to get a photo but when the opportunity presents itself, it’s always treasured. This Nikkah ceremony and reception was one for the books, especially since we pulled it off in barely 3 months! Some of the most heartfelt words we’ve ever heard were spoken on this day. What an honor to witness your love for and commitment to each other.

Here are a few things to consider when approaching your engagement portrait session:

💍 Are you interested in this photographer to shoot your wedding as well? If so, doing your engagement session with them gives you a preview into how they work and makes you more comfortable on the wedding day. Some wedding photographers even include a complimentary engagement session with their packages, which may save you a little $ by thinking big picture.

💍 Choose a location that feels like home - or shoot in the comfort of your actual home! Make sure you feel a connection to your space, whether it’s your favorite date night spot, an iconic location in your city or a beautiful spot you two pass regularly that always grabs your attention. Remember: a sunrise session is most ideal to feel like you have a public space all to yourself.

💍 Let the season inspire your aesthetic and outfit choices. Be sure to opt for outfits that complement each other without matching too much. Let your personalities shine through with your selections, avoiding competing patterns. Above all your want to be comfortable in seasonally appropriate attire and feel like yourselves.

💍 Time the session based on your desired vibe and lighting – golden hour always adds a dreamy touch. Your photographer will help you determine the time that makes the most sense given the time of year, location, etc.

💍 Let it feel like a date by build your session around an activity. Grabbing coffee, a drink, a slice of pizza or an ice cream cone can make for a super fun session that allows you to think less about being in front of a camera and more about sharing intimate space and joy with your fiancé. Activities like mini golf, a picnic or a visit to your favorite museum or attraction are great ways to ensure a fun session. Always opt for more personal over generic and remember recreating your first date can be a super fun walk down memory lane!

When giving out the coveted “Sunday Sauce” recipe was overruled, Erica and James opted for a locally-sourced pasta with personalized branding allowing their guests to take home a taste of their Italian culture.

The best wedding fashion is both personal and distinctive.

Embracing her heritage and expressing her authentic self, our bride, Leila’s choice of a custom-made suit intersected the needs of her comfort and style. Her attire featured a monochrome seafoam green shirt, pants, and cummerbund, with a floral-patterned Achkun jacket. She accessorized with gold jewelry and statement Betsy Johnson bedazzled floral loafers. The ensemble complemented the couple's vibrant color palette and served as a unique and modern tribute to Leila’s rich Persian heritage. It served as the perfect pairing alongside Molly’s sleek, off-the-shoulder, Vivianne Westwood silk gown and bold bridal bouquet.

From their initial consultation to the wedding day, we took Molly and Leila’s floral design vision to new and vibrant heights. 💐 They wanted a palette of teal, burgundy, and orange – deep and rich, to compliment the picturesque mountain setting of their venue. We tweaked the tones a bit to suit the season and their Pride month celebration. We knew the colors needed to reflect the boldness and vibrance that their love radiated. Persian heritage was at the heart of our design concept. They wanted to incorporate elements of the traditional Sofreh Agdh ritual, where they’d be seated during parts of the ceremony. We saw this as an opportunity to created an intimate atmosphere using pieces from our curated lounge set up, complete with large free-standing floral pillars that cascaded into a semi-circle to clearly set the stage. This arrangement allowed for seamless transitions between standing and sitting which kept everyone present in the moment. At the ceremony entrance, floral arrangements stood on pedestals and connected the entire space filled with over 220 guests. This also enhanced the look of the venue’s weather contingency option. We weren’t letting rain dampen this design, figuratively or literally! For the reception, we opted for alternating centerpiece styles that reflected both of their tastes. Inspired by the Catskills, we used wooden slabs that the couple crafted themselves from trees on their property nearby. Some tables featured multiple wooden slabs of varying sizes, creating height and dimension. Atop sat a mix of bud vases, bold colored taper candles, sandstone pillars and clear votives. The other style had lush compotes of greens, burgundy, pinks, and oranges with candles dancing around it. The result was a rich, burst of colors that perfectly enhanced the #biggaewedding. @jayflora_designs (check this handle) skillfully knocked the execution of our design out of the park! Welcome bags are always a highlight of a weekend wedding. You want to consider and anticipate your guests' needs when building welcome bags. Branding and keeping things cute is great but also be practical. Anything you know may be a necessity or not easily accessed based on location/ culture of where your wedding is taking place is always appreciated. How to Make an Attire Request for Your Wedding Guests: ✨ Get specific.. but not TOO specific. It’s one thing to ask for pastels in spring or to specify common wedding styles (black tie, formal, cocktail, causal, etc.) but be reasonable with your requests. Make sure it’s doable and user-friendly. Consider your guest count and remember how YOUR nearest and dearest deal with these types of things. ✨ Make sure they have ample notice and resources. Some people send invites a lot closer to the day than others for a variety of reasons. If you’re making an attire request, you probably won’t want to send your invites 8 weeks before the wedding. Giving people some extra time to prepare never hurts and will make it more likely for guests to honor it and execute it well. Depending on the request, you may even want to consider giving them access to a mood board to make sure the vision is as clear for them as it is for you. ✨ Make it make sense. Pastels will be easy for folks to find in May but not so easy in November, and black tie may not be the best suited for your outdoor wedding at the height of the summer. Whatever your request may be, we want to see it enhance your day, not deter it. Consider the setting, colors, season and style of your wedding overall when making this decision.
