Bespoke Tea Parties by Laura "Life is like a cup of tea, to be filled to the brim and enjoyed with friends." -Anonymous.
(2)

My girls and I love to enjoy afternoon tea especially if is in a foreign country and at a fancy hotel. We also liked to host tea parties in my home for family events like bridal showers and graduations. Recently for over a year I had the opportunity to follow my husband monthly to London. After exhausting all the sight seeing opportunities I decided to learn how to offer bespoke tea parties in my

home. I did this by taking afternoon tea whenever and wherever I could and by attending classes where I learned how to prepare tea, make scones, sandwiches and learned the traditions behind taking tea. Returning from our almost 20 years of expat life, I am now excited to offer Bespoke Tea Parties by Laura in YOUR home. I bring all the yummy food, fancy plate ware and of course, very fancy silver tea pot sets! I have several Tea Party menu options available under the Services tab and have reviews both under the Review tab and the Mentions tab. I look forward to working with you to make your Bespoke Tea Party the best it can be!

As you know when you host any of the Autumn/Pumpkin Spice Tea Parties I bring the tea cups and saucers. For this particular time of year its’s my Copeland/Spode bone china in the Florence pattern. I love it because it has such pretty fall colors of orange, yellow, blue and pink flowers with brown scrolls. Plus it was my grandmother’s!

Pinky out or in? Slurp or sip? Saucer rules? Stir like a mad man? So many questions about tea drinking etiquette.

Yes, there are times when you need to stir your tea whether adding sugar or milk or heaven forbid, it’s too hot. It’s never a good idea to create a whirlpool in your teacup by stirring in a circular motion. The proper way to stir your tea is by placing your spoon at the 12 o’clock position in your cup, then folding the liquid gently towards the 6 o’clock position. Repeat this up and down motion two or three times. Avoid clinking your spoon against the sides of the cup while stirring and never leave the spoon resting in the cup. Instead, place it on the saucer to the side of the cup.
Speaking of saucers, when drinking raise your teacup to sip, then place it back on the saucer when you are finished. And interestingly, if you are passing your cup to someone else so they may pour tea for you, pass both the saucer and teacup.
And speaking of tea cups, the traditional and most common way to hold a teacup at afternoon tea is with your index finger and thumb pinching together in the hole of the handle, with your middle finger underneath for support. Nowadays it’s also acceptable to loop your index finger (and middle finger if additional support is needed) through the hole of the handle, with your thumb on top of the handle. In either case, tho your remaining fingers — including the pinky — should be curled under. Rein in the pinky folks.

I am often asked what is the proper order to eat at a tea party. There are many websites devoted to this issue but what they all have in common is that you must start at the bottom of the 3 tiered tray.
What they don't have in common, however, is where the food is actually placed on the tiered tray. Some say that the scones must be placed on the top tier while others say scones are placed on the bottom tier. Where do the sandwiches go then, well, on the bottom or the middle, never on the top. That leaves either scones or sweets on the bottom or top. Good grief, so many opinions.
For my tea parties I place the scones on the bottom tier, followed by the sandwiches and the sweets. I do this for no other reason than the scones are large and the bottom tier has the largest space. Sometimes, if I have a large party the scones are given their own tray. Well, actually space on the tray is not the only reason, if I am really being honest, I like the scones on the bottom knowing that they are the first thing to be eaten which means I get to slather on the lemon curd and clotted cream right away!
