Yonder 2020 Program Announcement!
The wait is over and the time has come for us to announce the line-up for Yonder 2020! Say goodbye to live-streamed gigs and hello to live music. We are so excited to jump back to the other side of the screen and celebrate with you all in person (socially distanced of course!)
Yonder strives to provide a smorgasbord of the most exciting emerging music from across Queensland and Australia. Putting a festival together in 2020 has been a particularly unique experience, encouraging us to limit our search to within Queensland and to seek out the artists who had been extending their practice behind closed doors throughout lockdown.
We are really pleased to announce that we feel we’ve fulfilled this, as Yonder 2020’s lineup includes an expansive range of styles, genres and performances, with each artist bringing a definitive approach to their craft. From the long form ambient sets in store from acts like AVAXA and Unregistered Master Builder, to the up-beat virtuosos of HRBRT, Laik and the newly formed Krunj, Yonder will have something to offer for however you’re feeling.
Those on the hunt for in-your-face guitars will fall into the aural atmospheres of JUNE and Old Home, while those looking for straight up feel good vibes will make new friends with Donny Love, Sunflower and Greatest Hits.
Yonder 2020 will also see the debut of the Hill Stage, which overlooks the rolling hills of the Mary Valley and will deliver magical sets from angelic acts like Clea, MoZayic, Desmond Cheese and The Oogars, as well as unmissable sets from sonic scientists Collar and Tom Thum.
Our fresh creek-side addition, Yonderland, will be home to the bar, DJ stage, workshops, food trucks and chill spaces, all of which will be bathed in the sweet tunes of DJ maestros from A Love Supreme, Shandy, Black Bear Lodge and Temple of Odd, as well as the likes of Squidgenini, Glasshead and Lord Fascinator.
Aside from the refreshing program of music, Yonder will be bringing an array of performances and live experiences to the festival. Brisbane slam poetry crew, Ruckus Slam, and comedy hour, Get Up (Stand Up), will be back to touch your hearts and funny bones, while the collective Voices of Colour, will share their powerful words and art.
Part of the Yonder charm is the curious characters and wild adventures you can experience along the way. The festival site will be brought to life with roving theatre and performances from Theatre of Thunder, Church of Latter-Day Hams, Bring A Plate, Zen Zen Zo and many more eclectic delights. And maybe, if you’re willing to follow your adventurous side with The Puzzlemaker’s festival wide scavenger hunt, you might just find A Secret Spot Over Yonder...
This year, Yonder festival will be focusing on nurturing human connection outside of physical touch. Across the festival weekend, you can nurture your mind and creativity with workshops by ARTY PARTY, Craftivism Creations, and Ruckus Slam. For those of you who like to get your body moving, there will also be Handstand Play and Yoga, slackline workshops by Highline Australia and dance workshops by Bring A Plate.
Yonder will again be working with the Brisbane Street Art Festival to make the festival a playground for unusual and immersive works of visual art and interactive installations. Artists such as Gus Eagleton, Jordache, Imogen Peach, Emily Devers and many more will be painting live in the lush surrounds of the Sunshine Coast hinterland site.
Each year the festival engages local photographers to capture the ephemeral Yonder experience from all angles, and we are constantly blown away by the stunning work that our photography teams produce. This year, we are highlighting the artistry of each of our photographers with a feature on the Yonder website. Head over and have a look through some of the incredible talent, and find who you want taking your photo at Yonder 2020!
Now more than ever, Yonder is a celebration of human connection and experience through the arts. It is truly an honour to have the opportunity to feature this many seminal Brisbane and Queensland artists, bands and collectives over one weekend, and we can’t wait to share it all with you.
