There’s something truly magical about the moments leading up to I do. As the sun rises on a day that will mark the beginning of forever, it’s the laughter, the shared glances, and the excited whispers that fill the air. 🌅💍 The girls getting ready together, surrounded by love and joy, create heartfelt memories that will be cherished for a lifetime.

The Wedding day seems to always be a poetic symmetry about two souls coming together and committing their love, devotion, and respect for each other. The cake cutting ceremony was and is one of those poetic symmetries. Traditionally durning the cake cutting ceremony the bride and groom would feed each other the first bite of their cut cake symbolize their trust and respect for each other.

In modern days we see many participate in a playful cake smear or smash. This can be all in playful fun for a couple that is both consenting in true love toward each other.

Or some might have another option about this practice. Some might say it's a sign of potential issues related to control, disrespect, or disregard for boundaries if both parties are not willing.

It's always a good practice to talk about this event before the wedding day with your fiancé and decide together what kind of cake ceremony you wish to have together. Talk about what the cake ceremony means for the two of you and what kind of poetic symmetry you wish to portray to your guests. deciding together is the key here!

Then when in doubt ask a trusted friend or vendor you trust to help.

Large or small bridal party?

How to choose? Here are a few questions to consider..

1. What's a priority for you? friends, family, both?
2. What will make your day more enjoyable?
3. Would the people you would be asking be comfortable standing up with you?
4. What type of wedding day feel are you going for? small and intimate, extravagant, or somewhere in-between?
5. Would you be hurting any feelings by asking or not asking?
6. What's your finances family/ friend situation? Will they be able to match your number?
7. Is it important to you to have balanced bridal party photos? If you're curious what your photographer thinks here ask them! I guarantee they have an opinion!

This is always one of those tricky planning pieces for the Bride and Groom. Just remember when your in the bridal party (or not) its their day and nothing else matters than what they prefer. Be supportive and happy for them no matter what you'll be thankful you were years into the future.

How to get a moment like this into your day...

A well planned day makes room for sweet moments to happen like this one. We planned a little extra wiggle room before the ceremony so the whole bridal party could sit down and pray over the Bride and Groom before the ceremony. This couple wanted to be sure and give God the glory in all their plans for that day.

Together they prayed God would be glorified in this day, protection and provision over their marriage and smoothness over the details of the day. What an amazing moment to share together in worship before such a pinnacle commitment with each other! Also to feel the love and support from all their friends and family. Nothing could have been sweeter.

I Don't Want to hear it!

The dirty words.. New Years Resolutions...

Anyone have any they want to share? I'll share a few of mine..

- keep up with my workout schedule 3-4 days a week (at least get out and be active with the kids something is better than nothing)
- Stick to a healthy eating plan AKA less sugar, less carbs, less processed food blah blah blah
- Read through the whole Bible in a year
- In depth studies on the attributes of God, Biblical Friendships
- No TV before bed on the week days (weekends can be for rest relaxation.

Here are a few completed 2024 commitments:
✅ Read through the New Testament in a year
✅ commit to a continuous work out schedule 3 days a week
✅ Shoot and complete 20 weddings (im still editing through a few from last year but they have been photographed!
✅ Have family photos updated (I need to share these still!
✅ move into our new house and get organized

How to get this shot!

It's not always easy to get a beautiful sunset sky with your subjects lit perfectly. Here's a couple options to try..

1. Off camera lighting.. if your style allows for this have a helper shine an off camera light on your subjects as you expose for the sky details. I personally like boom lights that have adjustable kelvin temp. They are also easy to pack due to their slim size but come with a lot of power to make any shot work.

2. Not flash fan? That's Ok, I don't prefer flash either!.. here's what I like to do.. point your camera towards the North or South, place your subjects in front of you so light falls across your subjects. (Sun always sets in the west right?! (you want the sun to have set just past the horizon for this shot) Your subjects will be lit well at this point due to the ambient glow from the set sun. But your sky will be slightly darker so you can expose for all those beautiful cloud details. In post you might have to lighten up subjects and dark sky a touch but all details should be there.
