Séamus Creagh Festival Seamus Creagh Festival of Traditional Music from Newfoundland & Ireland. The mandate of “Feile Seamus Creagh” is to promote and showcase this relationship.

We will do this by presenting Newfoundland and Irish traditional music and musicians in a comfortable and professional concert setting. In pairing top notch traditional musicians from Ireland with appropriate Newfoundland counterparts, we will showcase and explore these close relationships that exist within our respective musical heritages.

Great news! We’re looking forward to this! SingSong Inc.

SingSong Inc. has a very exciting announcement for you all this morning! 🎼🎤🪕🎸

and , veterans of the Newfoundland and Labrador music scene with more than 100 years of experience in the business between them, will release a new CD this weekend!

The album is entitled , and features traditional and
original songs that reflect historical and contemporary life in this
province, with topics ranging from life at sea to the building of the Newfoundland railway, from Beaumont Hamel to commentary on our provincial geography and a ditty on the possible existence of a lake monster on the northeast coast. A rollicking set of jigs wraps it all up.

Both musicians still maintain busy solo careers besides having been working together for nearly 30 years. Fergus was introduced to Newfoundland and Labrador audiences as a member of the beloved trio, Ryan’s Fancy, while Jim has become one of the province’s most prolific songwriters, writing anthems that have now become traditional Newfoundland songs like Wave Over Wave, When We Was Boys and Waltz Around the Cape.

The new album combines the talents of two of the province’s favourite songsters and will be formally released from 6-8 pm, Saturday, 02 November at O'Reilly's on George Street with a performance by Jim and Fergus. Open to the general public with free admission, all hands are invited and the more the merrier.

About Danú

Hailing from Counties Waterford, Cork, Dublin and Donegal in Ireland, Danú is one of the leading traditional Irish ensembles of today. The band formed in 1995 as part of Ireland’s delegation to Lorient Inter-Celtic Festival in Brittany, France (an annual event that is the biggest gathering of Celtic nations in the world). The debut album simply entitled "Danú" was released by the band in 1997 to huge critical acclaim and in 1999 Danú signed a multi-album record deal with the US based recording label Shanachie Entertainment with whom they subsequently released five albums and a live DVD internationally between 2000 and 2006.

Happy Friday, fans and followers, from SingSong Inc! We have a truly iconic album for your listening pleasure today, available now on our BandCamp page, in addition to our main site.

"Towards the Sunset was recorded 41 years ago and quickly became one of the most important and influential recordings of the Newfoundland and Labrador folk music revival that had started in the late seventies. It remains so to this day. Pat and Joe Byrne along with the late Baxter Wareham, who had already been an important part of the revival with his four siblings performing as the Wareham Brothers, had travelled widely performing with the Breakwater Boys, which also included the late legendary Newfoundland fiddler, Rufus Guinchard, and the late Clyde Rose, founder of Breakwater Books.

While staying true to the tradition, they performed original songs written about universal and traditional themes, songs by the late
Newfoundland poet Al Pittman such as The Rocks of Merasheen, local adaptations of traditional songs like Rubber Boots, and an unforgettable anthem to Labrador in The Land God Gave to Cain. Combining the gentle, rhythmic sound of Joe's guitar with the strength and dexterity of Baxter's accordion, Pat's powerful voice anchored the strong vocal presence supplied by all three performers.

Towards the Sunset provided a thoughtful acknowledgement of the the hard work and sacrifices of our ancestors, and helped foster a newly found sense of pride and place. After 41 years this album still stands out, and is as resonant today as it was then, when it was hailed as an example of a contemporary approach to our traditional music while remaining true to our cultural and historic connections to our past." - Jim Payne

Towards the Sunset is available for digital streaming and download now on our BandCamp page here: https://singsonginc.bandcamp.com/album/towards-the-sunset
