The house, built in the late 1800s, was the home of Capt. Henry Sewall, a Dade County legislative representative. The home also served as a post office in its early days and a bootlegging site in the 1920s. Originally located on Old St. Lucie Boulevard, the house was relocated in 2006 to Indian RiverSide Park by barge down the St. Chosen as the featured home for the 2012 Children's Home Society of Florida designer showcase, this house is a welcome addition to the park. Stemming off from Captain Sewall's home is a currently under construction mangrove nature trail system that winds through the trees and will end at a reconstruction of an ancient Indian chiki hut. The Mansion at Tuckahoe
In 1936, Atlanta businessman Willaford Leach and his wife Anne Bates Leach, a Coca Cola heiress, purchased Mt. Elizabeth and the surrounding property and built the Mediterranean Revival home that exists today. Named “Tuckahoe” (thought to be a Native American term for “Welcome”), the estate was completed in 1939 with the latest in architectural design for that time. Sitting on approximately 54 acres of riverfront woodland and rolling lawns, Tuckahoe was the hub of social life in Martin County and the setting for countless parties attended by the local social set and WWII soldiers from Camp Murphy. Martin County purchased the propery in 1997 and began to restore the property to it's original glory. Used now as a rental facility, this home is a perfect location to host weddings, parties and other social events, just as it did over 70 years ago. Just south of the Mansion on the same property is the newly constructed amphitheater and stage, along with the Tuckahoe Terrace copmlete with restrooms and a full catering kitchen. The Frances Langford Dockside Pavilion
The 2-story Frances Langford Dockside Pavilion is an air conditioned banquet hall, over looking the Indian River Lagoon. With more than 3800 square feet of space, not including the caterers kitchen and wrap around balcony. The facility can hold 256 people for your next event.
