GEAS is no longer a stand-alone event, instead the green energy transition will form a key pillar of AOW 2024, with the themes ‘Sustainable development of the upstream’ and ‘Integration of renewables and new energies’ set to be prominent within the content agenda.

This means all industry updates (including news on renewables and the clean energy transition) plus AOW: Investing in African Energy event updates will now be posted solely on AOW: Investing in African Energy.

Take a look at our updated deal map which includes the latest deals that aim to boost renewable energy development and climate action across the continent.

Amongst the most significant agreements signed in Dubai, we note the plethora of deals that AMEA Power has been able to progress across sub-Saharan Africa including in Ethiopia, Djibouti, Kenya, Mozambique, Zimbabwe, Togo and Mauritania!

Masdar (Abu Dhabi Future Energy Company) has also made strides by advancing clean energy projects in Uganda, Kenya, Zambia, Angola, and Congo!

COP28 has provided the grounds to negotiate several projects to produce , and and explore ways to decarbonise industry using . was also on the agenda thanks to deals signed by NNPC Limited of Nigeria with Wison Group and SDP SERVICES.

Our long-time partner Oando Plc was also active in Dubai and notably announced an MoU for a 100 MW in Nigeria and a deal with CarbonAi for the capture and commercialisation of flared gas!

COP28 UAE: What deals have been announced so far?

AMEA Power signed a series of agreements, MoUs and deals for renewable energy projects on the continent, including a and battery plant in Djibouti, a 300 MW wind farm in Ethiopia - the country's first IPP, an investment in the 200 MW Paka geothermal project in Kenya, an MoU to expand its flagship solar PV plant in Togo, and agreements for a and solar PV plant in Mauritania!

Masdar (Abu Dhabi Future Energy Company) has also been involved in a few deals, including a large investment in the Suswa geothermal project in Kenya via PT. Pertamina Geothermal Energy and an agreement to build a 150 MW solar PV plant in .

Additional deals include the signing of the power purchase agreement for the 25 MWac Ilute Solar PV Poject in Zambia with Serengeti Energy, Western Solar Inc. and Africa GreenCo / GreenCo Power Services; and a partnership between Octopus Energy and Sherbroislandcity to build Sierra Leone's first wind farm!
