Truly community inspired, the headed up by Ricky Lee Gordon from /A WORD OF ART, incorporated the wishes and dreams of not only the community children but the general members of the community as well.
The mural, painted on a soccer clubhouse in Khayalitsha, was a combined effort from Artist Freddy Sam, together with 4 assistants: Juma Mkwela and Willard Kembva (Khayalitsha based art facilitators), Christiaan Chonradie (Cape Town Artist) and Hannah Parr (/A WORD OF ART artist in residence from Berlin).
The name of the project was inspired by the idea of asking residents the question, “What do you want to see?” This not only allowed the community to be engaged with the project, but allowed them to take some sort of ownership as well.
We are proud to have sponsored the paint to such a noble cause :)
