OLIVER BAPTISTE
Oliver Baptiste is a world-class international DJ with considerable screen, print, and runway time as a professional model and actor. With such an extensive and diverse entertainment background, there can be no wondering as to his undeniable ability to read and work a crowd.
Versatility bred from his Jamaican roots, Canadian childhood and a professional life that has taken him time and again to international hotbeds like London, New York, and South Africa puts Oliver in a league that most DJs aspire to.
Be it classic reggae beats, dirty funk, or pulse pounding house music, Oliver seeks out the most dance-inducing music from all countries, packs it with life and hand delivers it to his audience. His uncanny ability to mix smooth Afro-beats with techno-house rhythms solidly puts him in the driver’s seat as he lifts the energy and moves his audience from the beginning to the end of his time on the stage. He masterfully pays homage to some of his greatest inspirations with echoes of ‘Lil Louie Vega, Todd Terry, Kenny Dope, and Tony Humphries.
Music is at the very core of Oliver’s being, which is why for him, DJing is a way of life. He started spinning turntables at 15 years of age and made music a driving force in his other artistic endeavors.
While maintaining a successful international modeling career, he traveled the world, which allowed him to spin in big house music clubs wherever he set foot. It wasn’t long before he found himself opening for some of the biggest international DJs in the world and landed his first residence at Karma Nightclub in Cape Town, South Africa, where he played for seven years.
These developments gave rise to his international recognition and secured additional residencies in London and The Philippines. In 2011, he headed back to Cape Town once again to play opening night of the illustrious Club Reserve, the year when Afro-beats and Kwaito dominated the international markets, and sounds from Dennis Ferrer, Black Coffee, Nic Fancuilli, The Martinez Brothers, and Marco Carola were all must-plays.
In his signature bespoke look; bow tie, button up shirt, and tailor fitted sweater, Oliver drove the crowd ecstatic that evening. His unforgettable performance that night solidly distinguished him as one of South Africa’s elite DJs.
Oliver currently plays his contagious sounds to sold out houses in his hometown at venues like Toronto’s Nest, Maison, Toronto International Film Festival, Light Box, and other global events like The World Cup in South Africa (2010) and The J&B Met.
This proven talent, with the combination of his unmistakable style, leading edge music, and winning smile make him unequivocally the next big thing in the world DJ scene.
