The Discrimination Against Persons with Disabilities (Prohibition) Act 2018 was passed into law by the President Muhammadu Buhari led administration 2019.

This beautiful law which made copious provisions including prohibition of discrimination on the basis of disability, ensuring accessibility to public structures, prohibition of discrimination from employment of qualified persons with disabilities, provision of Healthcare and education and the creation of the National Commission for Persons with Disabilities.

Despite the enactment of this law, persons with disabilities still struggle as second class citizens in their own country. They are often left viewed as objects of mercy and treated with disdain.

At this NBA AGC 2024, specifically tomorrow Tuesday 27th August, a panel of persons with vested interest shall x-ray the Discrimination Against Persons with Disabilities (Prohibition) Act 2018 and determine whether the implementation of the law is merely in words.
