The Informatech Inspiring Fifty Gala Dinner Awards were held at the majestic Mount Nelson. When designing gala dinners, it’s important to match the decor to the venue so the event fits seamlessly into the space. For this dinner, we used flowers that looked like they could have been picked from the garden. We utilized the existing chairs and filled the staircase with lanterns, tiny table lamps, and exquisite lighting. The overall look was stylish and sophisticated, perfectly matching the elegance of the Mount Nelson.

Have you ever been to a party where the DJ is the uncle? Or, where the band was more suited for a high school dance? It’s incredibly important to choose the right entertainment for every event. Each one is different and has its own special requirements.
"Simply Smooth" is the perfect jazz band for playing during dinner – their sound is strong and engaging, while still remaining in the background. When it comes to DJs, the most important questions are "Can they read the room? Do they know the right music to suit the guests?"

Building a client's corporate identity into the colour scheme for the decor is often part of the brief. For this conference, we ensured that the design and decor effectively conveyed the brand's story. The use of blue and red in the furniture and florals made the identity stand out.

The minimalist interior of the Norval Foundation was enhanced by exquisite florals for a 40th birthday dinner. The gold candles added a touch of glamour for the evening to follow.

Farm Design Events was tasked with creating breakout rooms within the Homecoming Center for the Goethe-Institut. We partitioned the rooms and used large-format printed images of District 6. Each room was named after a famous person from District 6: Faldela Williams, known for writing "The Cape Malay Cookbook"; Abdullah Ibrahim, a world-famous jazz musician; and Gerald Sekota, one of South Africa's most renowned artists. Part of the brief was to maintain the look and feel as if they were in the houses of District 6. We created five rooms in total. The Homecoming Center is a beautiful building, and we wanted the look and feel to be seamless.

Hosted at the Vineyard Hotel as part of the AMALI Social Program, the Mayoral Dinner, attended by mayors from all over Africa and hosted by the City of Cape Town's mayor, Geordin Hill-Lewis, drew inspiration from the wheatlands of the Overberg, the majestic blue crane, South Africa's national bird and the secretary bird. Each table featured towering representations of these magnificent birds, complemented by modern vases filled with grasses that ran down the center of the tables. The three-course dinner was both beautiful and unique, leaving guests in awe of the decor and contributing to the evening's resounding success.

Farm Design organized a really special dinner at Dorp for 20 VIP visitors to South Africa. Brigitte Walsh, of Wide Africa, brought the client and Pamela Mc Onie, the food connoisseur of Cape Town, gave a talk about the city and its food culture. Cape Town and Dorp, an ultra-exclusive boutique hotel perched on top of Signal Hill, hosted the dinner – a very special evening as Dorp doesn’t normally do events. The dinner was in the stylish and elegant salon, the food was delicious, and we served the best Cape wines!

At the African Infrastructure conference, hosted by African Centre for Cities at UCT, Farm Design Events was responsible for everything – from AV to catering, furniture, and social events. The lunch breaks were an important networking opportunity, and we designed an easy-to-eat menu that was served under cabanas for shade. Table Mountain provided the florals for the harvest table. It was a relaxed and stylish event for the hard-working delegates.

Winter in the Cape is absolutely amazing with the Fynbos in full bloom! I love walking on Table Mountain, surrounded by beautiful Proteas, including the stunning King Protea. This striking flower adds a special touch to any arrangement and captivates visitors from around the world. We love using them abundantly in our floral decor.

For events in unusual places, how do you rate the Land Rover dealership's workshop? For Land Rover Discovery, we created a camping trip. We used camping and outdoor furniture, and of course, we served South Africa's favorite menu from the braais we set up outside. Drinks included gin & tonic and brandy & coke. As the sun set, our lighting became that of the Land Rover Discoverys on the car lifts. Kinsley Holgate had everyone's rapt attention with his talk about his latest adventure. Challenge us with your next event.

A career highlight for Farm Design Events was orchestrating the public opening of the Zeitz Museum of Contemporary Art Africa (MOCAA). Departing from the traditional ribbon-cutting ceremony, we adorned the front of the gallery with hundreds of ribbons, each bearing a medal. These medals were given to guests as keepsakes to commemorate the occasion.

We were honored to have Archbishop Desmond Tutu and his wife, Leah, as our distinguished guests. Archbishop Tutu officiated the opening ceremony. The event featured performances by the South African Youth Choir and an extraordinary elephant puppet by The Hand Spring Puppet Company.

The opening was a joyous and emotional event, with hundreds of children in attendance. Each child received a T-shirt, backpack, and lunch, and they were the first guests to explore the gallery. The successful opening of the now-iconic building was a momentous occasion, reflecting the spirit and vibrancy of the Zeitz MOCAA.
