Jazz at the Nassau

Jazz at the Nassau The inspiration for Jazz at the Nassau came from the concert series Jazz at the Philharmonic which was started by Norman Granz in the Fifties.

He took jazz out the clubs, bars and restaurants of New York and put it into a concert format in Carnegie Hall. Jazz at the Nassau is a scaled down version of this concept, founded in November ’99 by organiser and producer, Cliff Wallis. It was created with the aim of giving local jazz musicians a platform to display their art form in an intimate theatre venue. Since its inception, JATN has hosted

the full spectrum of local musicians, from the old and established to the young up-and-comings. JATN’s loyal following have also seen artists from across Europe and the United States, including the Brubeck brothers. Nine or ten concerts are held each year, always on Sunday evenings. Just to ease you into the week ahead. Tickets are R80 - contact Cliff Wallis for bookings.
