In post-apartheid South Africa, Pumla Gobodo-Madikizela is asking, when is forgiveness possible, and where does that leave the search for justice? These questions have sent her on what she calls the "reparative quest", seeking answers from people on opposite sides of the atrocity — including the former police colonel, Eugene de K**k, nicknamed “Prime Evil” for his role in killing and torturing activists fighting white minority rule in the country.

In post-apartheid South Africa, Pumla Gobodo-Madikizela is asking, when is forgiveness possible, and where does that leave the search for justice? This episode originally broadcast on 15 September 2024.

Did you know a homeless person can walk into the Social Development office at the Golden Acre mall at 9 Adderley Street and be booked into a FREE shelter.

They will have an opportunity to get their ID and a job! They so have an opportunity to get into a substance abuse program.

🛑 Stop keeping people on the street by giving them handouts. 🛑

✅ Start helping them into a shelter! ✅

Fadeela Ally Schmidt - Facilitator at The Novalis Ubuntu Institute.

As an alma mater of UWC, social and personal development has been central in her continuous professional development as she makes contributions to education and well-being awareness.

She received her Masters (cum laude) in Child and Family studies in 2005, and has made contributions through pioneering initiatives such as the No-Name initiative and A Chance for Every Child at Novalis Ubuntu Institute. At Novalis Ubuntu she draws on consciously merging educational, writing and healing modalities.

She co-designed and co-implemented an Enrichment Programme called Care Power. It became a lived derivative of the practical experiences and training unfolding of her Masters thesis, nineteen years prior. It was piloted in January 2022 for caregivers through A Chance for Every Child’s education initiative, at Novalis Ubuntu Institute.

Fadeela is a beloved facilitator on The Novalis Ubuntu Institute's TEAM.

During the 1970's a visionary group of young people led by Ralph Shepherd, got together in Durban and birthed the vision and seed for The Novalis Ubuntu Institute. The vision was to build a social cohesive space for people to find themselves as full self-agents and co-creators of a new world, physically, emotionally, intellectually and spiritually. After the inauguration of President Donald Trump yesterday, we are keenly watching how the unfolding cycle will be for America. The Liberation of the Human Spirit is needed more than ever, Every Where - Equality, Liberty and Fraternity to the fore. The big question for us is - how will we discover our full potential in the new age of AI?

What better way to begin 2025 than by celebrating the life-changing potential of education?

In the lead up to International Day of Education this January, with Ranjitsinh Disale, the trailblazing teacher who has changed lives across the globe.

Considered the Nobel Prize equivalent for teaching, the Global Teacher Prize was awarded to Disale in 2020 for his work in transforming the teaching profession. From introducing QR-coded textbooks in India to eliminating teenage marriages in his village, he has proven that one teacher can make a world of a difference. His generosity in sharing half of his $1 million prize with other finalists has set a new standard for leadership and collaboration.
