The Legendary DJ Dr John aka DJ Doc from Matroosfontein has sadly passed away today.
I have always known about him growing up and the very few interactions I've had with him were always pleasant. Sadly I only got to hear him DJ once or twice in his heyday and then again at the 2020 Matroosfontein Jazz Reunion.
I also had the pleasure of being up on stage and photographing him and a few of our other local legendary DJs at MJR2020.
My sincerest condolences to his loved ones 🫶🏾

Kicking off the Roots, Culture, Heritage and Decolonisation Week - RCHD, Cape Catacombs at Trenchtown in Observatory is a Free Pre-Launch Concert on Tuesday 25 February with a massive lineup that includes prominent artists whose repetoires range from Revolutionary Hip Hop to Roots Reggae.
Featured Artists, Groups and DJ's include Kape Kullid Khoi, Isaac Mutant, Mr Griep, Niko10Long, Natasha Tafari, Umhambi Wenclela, Tylor Afrika, TheeBlackSheeeep, Empress Naphtali, MxGNS, RA 1, Black Rose Project, Big Belly Bufu, DJ realROZZANO, Lawd Zexaw, Black Athena, Raheem Beatbox, Kaalvoet Princesa & Ivor Carl.
Entrance to Cape Catacombs at Trenchtown is Free and the event kicks off with a documentary screening from 5pm till 6pm. That is followed by an Open Mic Session until 7pm which is when the live scheduled performances will start.

The Inaugural RCHD Week of the Adwa Movement aims to take The Decolonisation Project into the Future with this Dope Pre-Launch Concert, the Exciting Inaugural RCHD Week Launch Event on Wednesday the 26th, Film Screenings, Key Note Addresses and Panel Discussions, a San Bushman Fire Dance Ceremony, Music Perfromances, Poetry, and on Saturday March the 1st, a Vibrant March Through Cape Town to Celebrate Victories at the Battles of Salt River & The Battle of Adwa.
All these exciting activities and events go along with addressing The Serious Issues of Decolonisation and How the Berlin Conference of 140 years ago still affects us as Africans to this day.

RCHD Week is organised by The Adwa Movement in collobaration with multiple stakeholders and with Bruinou.com on baord as a Media Partner.
