I want to share a story with you.

I was one of three independent authors that were invited to showcase and sell my book at the Heritage Museum Simonstown over the weekend. It was an event sponsored by Standard Bank Group

It was a big honor for me to be there, The Olive Exchange was also another independent author and publisher.

It was an experience that I will forever remember because "ek hette klomp boeke vikoep😅😅"

Yesterday I went through to the venue a bit later but when I got there, there were a few school laaities that attended. The teacher a white lady looks at me, smiles, and greets me at the coffee area. As I make my way to the book stand where my book is, the teacher and children follow me.

She greets me again "jys mos Stanley Jacobs " very excited to see me, I reply " Ja ek is Stanley" daa begin sy praat en sê vimy sy hou skool in Valhalla park en die kinders met haa is haar studente". Twee van my vriende is ook saam met my, hulle is besigheids eienaars en is oorspronklik van Valhalla park " what a coincidence.

I couldn't believe this white teacher is teaching in Valhalla Park I was impressed 😅😅. What I never knew was she is also a Facebook friend who has already written four books. Long story short, we encouraged those laaities so lekke yesterday that after the chat we were asked to come to the school soon.

You see our achievements are important and it needs to be shared so that our young boys and girls from the Cape Flats can find inspiration in our stories. I told myself Friday (ek was lekke kwaad) I'm going to go to all the white book events because "daai mense support, toe stuu die Here Valhalla Park se kinnes om vimy te remind, ek moet nooit vigiet van ôs laaities nie, ôs moet role models wies vi ôs youngsters, even as ôs mense nie ôs craft support nie!"

My heart is for our youngsters ❤️
We need to Stop outsourcing our responsibility to the government, it's our job to inspire!
