The pioneering African DJ collective has it’s roots within the Cape Town hip hop culture that emerged in the early 80’s and the group has officially formed in 1999 after Ready D’s successful career as a battle DJ competing in the prestigious Technics DMC’s locally and abroad in the US, London and France. Beat Bangaz are a multi genre DJ crew with individual music tastes and deck wrecking skills. Combining these qualities are the ingredients for a longstanding collective career which spans almost three decades. Seeing the three mix, scratch and work together as a unit gives the live audience a unique visual and audio experience
Deeply rooted in Hip Hop culture gives the crew the opportunity to easily cross music genres during sets – taking the audience on a non stop music journey. As respective members of iconic South African bands like Prophets of the City and Brasse Vannie Kaap their collective and individual experiences afforded them the opportunity to exhibit their skills on international and national stages like Cape Town International Jazz Festival, KKNK, Pukkelpop Festival & more with numerous club performances. With a track record consolidated in international tours, radio, television, seminars and workshops - makes Beat Bangaz a unique South African DJ collective.

This week on the PEPR segment we hear a few songs from the Hip-Hop planet. Amy True is from UK and her song is called "Expectations" and also on Planet Earth Planet Rap we have a collaboration between some Zambian emcees such as Philip Mweemba, Krytic and Killa as well as Timbuktu who is an artist and author from the city of Lund in Sweden. He is one of the biggest names of Swedish Hip-Hop from the past couple of decades.

Through these workshops—part of our Kids Music Fun program—we aim to empower children, fostering growth and resilience. 1. Emotional Well-being:Learning DJing as a creative outlet allows children to express their emotions in a safe and structured way. Music becomes a tool for releasing stress, building confidence, and finding joy. Engaging in such creative practices also cultivates a sense of accomplishment and pride. 2. Spiritual Growth:Hip Hop culture emphasizes self-identity, community, and purpose. By introducing children to its principles and values, they gain a sense of belonging and empowerment. Music and rhythm can be deeply meditative, helping children connect with their inner selves and discover new ways to navigate life’s challenges. 3. Physiological Development:Operating high-tech DJ equipment involves focus, coordination, and fine motor skills. Children learn how to manipulate tools, synchronize beats, and interact with technology, improving hand-eye coordination, timing, and concentration. These skills also enhance cognitive development and discipline.This past weekend, we brought this dynamic component of the Beatbangaz DJ Academy to the children of Kleinmond, where they explored creativity, rhythm, and self-expression.
