Khotso Nkhatho
The best writer of sesotho drama
Khotso Nkhatho is a seasoned actor, scriptwriter, theatre director, short story writer, playwright and the Executive Drama Producer at Lesedi FM. He has participated on stage, in television and radio plays, revues and performances over 40 years. His hard work led him to be appointed as the Executive Drama Producer in 2007.
When asked about his work, Nkhatho said: “As the Executive Drama Producer at Lesedi FM, I work with Mannini Nyokong (the first female drama producer at the station); Tello Nhlapho, technical producer; and Mohau Nteo, the first female technical producer at Lesedi FM. It is a great pleasure to work with this team. It is part of our collective responsibility to broadcast radio dramas and soapies of a high standard. I motivate the team I am working with to achieve good results at work. We came up with a strategy that attracts our listeners to listen to the radio dramas that we are broadcasting at Lesedi FM.”
Nkhatho said they have a strong relationship with many playwrights/scriptwriters who wrote many dramas for the station. Mathene Mahanke, author and scriptwriter based in Bloemfontein, wrote one hundred episodes for a Sesotho soapie, Monyaka. “On 6 February 2012 we broadcast the first episode of this soapie. Among the other writers who wrote episodes for Monyaka, are Diketso Thulo (Mangaung), Matseko Ramotekoa (Botshabelo), Kenalemang Kelebogile Mafoyane (Bloemfontein), Fani Monareng (Qwaqwa), Marumo Molelekoa (Parys) and Motsamai Mohotloane from Hennenman,” he added.
According to Nkhatho they don’t just do drama and soapies for entertainment and education. “When you listen to our dramas, what do you learn from them? Remember, if there is no message in drama then it is not drama. We received good feedback from our listeners. I must say, our soapie, Monyaka, as well as many other dramas, have been highly praised.”
He played different characters in 19 episodes on SABC2 during a television serie
