Thank you to our friends at The Union Of Jewish Women Durban for more beautiful photos of the Sandwich Drive which took place in our Main Hall on Nelson Mandela Day 😍

The UJW arranged to have several corporates, 18 charities, and community organisations to band together, network and make sandwiches for those in need.

We love that the charities were able to make their sandwiches, then take them home to distribute further afield!

It was a pleasure to once again host this heartwarming event and we encourage everyone to get involved next year 🤍

We had the pleasure of hosting the Union Of Jewish Women Durban for their fantastic annual sandwich making exercise where various organisations, companies and community individuals banded together so 18 charities could benefit! 🥳

Congrats to the UJW ladies for connecting all the charities and making this event a roaring success!

The Grand Dame in all her glory 🕍

Did you know we established The Durban Jewish Club in 1931? 92 years ago!

During WW2 the Club’s facilities were opened to visiting servicemen of all faiths and nationalities. A canteen, hot and cold showers, billiards, tennis, squash and reading and writing rooms were available. Soldiers from all parts of the world made use of these facilities, as Durban became the staging post for all allied troops on their way to the Middle East.

We are very proud of our building that is a landmark rich with history.

The DJC’s walls hold memories of fine music, theatre performances, balls, conferences, lectures, protest meetings and bustling energy of generations.

For those who aren't aware, I am the current president of the South African Jewish Board of Deputies 's KZN Council.

A heartfelt Yom Hashoah (Holocaust Remembrance Day) ceremony was held at the Durban Jewish Club where the KZN Jewish community gathered to commemorate the six million who perished in the Holocaust. I also addressed the KZN community.

Unfortunately antisemitism has been thriving for years. Despite entreaties 'never to forget and never to repeat', man's inhumanity to man continues to this very day, for example the Ukraine conflict.

South Africa is also very much affected by antisemitism. However, in South Africa, we have an excellent constitution and a strong Constitutional Court, as well as a determined Jewish community, led by the South African Jewish Board of Deputies, so no incident of antisemitism is left unchallenged.

A huge thank you to the Durban Holocaust & Genocide Centre for their continued dedication and incredible programmes. If you haven't yet paid the centre a visit, I would highly recommend you do so.
