I just have to share my views on the deejaying industry……..

In the competitive world of event promotion, the battle for contracts between DJs has become increasingly cutthroat, with many unknown DJs cutting prices to secure gigs despite having limited knowledge of sound or lighting. This trend has become particularly prevalent in cities like Durban, where event promoters are willing to pay as little as R1000 for a DJ to play. In contrast, event coordinators in Johannesburg are willing to pay R1500, highlighting the stark differences in pricing and the challenges faced by aspiring DJs trying to make a name for themselves in the industry.

Historically, the DJ industry has always been a competitive one, with DJs constantly vying for gigs, especially in major cities like Johannesburg and Durban. However, the rise of unknown DJs cutting prices to secure contracts has added a new dynamic to the industry, leading to concerns about the devaluation of the craft and the impact on experienced DJs who rely on fair compensation for their skills and experience.

One of the key figures in this trend is the event promoter, who plays a critical role in determining the value of a DJ's services. Promoters in Durban, who are willing to pay only $1000 for a DJ to play, are contributing to the problem by prioritizing cost over quality.
