WOW WOMEN CAMPAIGN- Recipient no.3.
A couple of years ago when Magpie Calls turned 10, I decided to honour various women in kzn who used their platforms in the creative industries to empower and inspire and gift them a custom crown or headpiece as a thank-you for who they are, and what they are doing.
I have gifted 2 crowns so far and just sent off the 3rd this last week.

The third recipient is a powerhouse in the kzn fashion world. She is passionate about growing design in SA, helps to educate and build the next generation of designers and proudly supports local talent. She is part of keeping our standards high, and sharing us with the world. She is an inspiration as a woman and entrepreneur and I created a piece that can be dressed up or down, depending how it is styled. The mixed gold tones, little bit of sparkle and metallic florals speak to the growth she strives for, and I hope she feels like a Queen.

Just a reminder that I do not share who I gifted the piece to, unless they decide to tag or share themselves. These are gifts... but I still wanted to show the piece I made.

This is the crown that became the iconic signature for Magpie Calls in the early days of my specialisation in Bridal and Special Occasion accessories. Made for my first BIG, fully curated styled shoot, it was so completely different to what had been seen out there. It showed what I could do, and set the path for my signature combinations of beading and design.
She has been a part of telling inspiring stories, making women feel empowered and gorgeous wedding inspo.

It's Spring Week here in SA.
This piece which I named my "Frida" crown will forever be a favourite crown of mine (and in fact it is now in my personal collection). I can however make you a custom version with your own colour combo and beading. It just feels so "springy" and full of joy and fun.
Handmade fabric flowers, with wired and beaded fronds and a satin wrapped base.

I love what I do!
I know a lot of people say that. But it's true!
Creating with my own hands is something that amazes me everyday, but its the final reveal, the clients feedback and the beautiful images of their happy faces while wearing my pieces that really makes me love what I do.
To know my work has been, and will be, a part of so many special times, love story moments and core memories fufills me so much. I thank God for my ability to create from scratch, to see the final product from a bunch of random components and to visualise how it can all fit together with your final look.
What I do is more than just "making pretty things", it is love and care into every creation. It is time, energy, experience and above all crowning the Queens (and sometimes kings), and making you feel fabulous.
Accessories are an extension of your personality and style and deserve more than a cursory thought.
Did I mention that I love what I do?
Coz I do!

Here at Magpie Calls I work with YOU to create pieces that work with your existing accessories or overall look and vibe for the day.
In this beautiful shot from our "Blushing bride" shoot, I matched this metallic leaves and crystal beads hair comb with this delicate pearl veil. Adding just the right amount of texture and interest, without distracting from the beauty of that veil moment. Bonus, is that after the veil shots, you still have something to wear for your reception that ties in with your floral lace dress.
When you work hand in hand with clients, it becomes a special relationship in helping them choose something that works with so many elements for their wedding or special event. You can't get that from a chain store.
I love everything about what I do. It truly is a passion to adorn the amazing women I get to meet (online and in person), and make them feel like the Queens they are.

Happy Women's Day to my South African followers.
I am, because of you! The women who came before me... who guided, fought, strived for our rights and who sacrificed so much.
I am, because of the women I get to work with all year round... vendors on shoots, my brides, my clients, my stockists and those who recommend me. Hi. For those that don't know, I am Tarah, the owner, designer and magic maker behind Magpie Calls. (That is me in the first pic). I just wanted to share a snippet of some of the work I have done over the years, making accessories, and show the diversity of what I can do.
While my speciality is custom designs, I also make a variety of ready-made pieces that are just as unique and one-of-a-kind.

The brief.... the headpiece would be the only thing the model was wearing.... so go big and bold.

I love it when pieces are used in a different way than expected.

Here our "IRIS" handmade clay flower headband (in colab with ) is used around a Bun and above a veil for a stunning statement, with classic, romantic vibes.

I have a confession to make. I am NOT a sports girl. I barely know who is playing what, and have a basic grasp of the rules if I do watch. BUT I absolutely ADORE how sport brings us South Africans together. Tonight people of all races and cultures will be watching our BOKS in the Rugby World Cup final against the All Blacks and even though I don't own any supporter gear, I'll be wearing green and of course will be accessorizing in green and gold to watch. I think this falls under the "special occasion category" 🤣😉 Ama bokkebokke.
