Riverside Hockey Club sends our condolences to Barbara and the Payne family on the sudden passing late last week of one of our founders, Graham Payne.

Graham was a member of Glenwood Old Boys HC for a decade until his vision and sage input was fundamental to the team that concluded the merger with Crusaders in 1999.

Graham was a life member and the first captain of our Grasshoppers masters team, and more recently was an active player in the Choppers masters team.

He added immense insight and value to the laying of both turfs at Riverside and was widely loved for his gentle manner and sense of humour. In short, Graham Payne was the epitome of Riverside’s mantra, PURE HOCKEY ENJOYMENT.

Rest in Peace Graham, your contribution to Riverside is hugely appreciated and will be sorely missed.

It is with heavy hearts that we heard of the passing of a legend of the hockey community and a loving father, Michael Lees. Our thoughts and prayers are with all family members and those closest to him.

DOUBLE VICTORY FOR DGC AT WORLD HOCKEY MASTERS!

Durban Girls' College is proud to celebrate both the SA O35 Men's and Women's Teams, who have qualified for the finals of the World Masters Hockey World Cup! A special shoutout to our Primary School Sports Co-Ordinator, Jonty Robinson, Captain of the Men's Team and Coach of the Women’s Team. Coach Jonty is a great inspiration to our pupils, bringing incredible energy and passion to sport in the Primary school where his experience, leadership and enthusiasm continue to drive our young athletes.

Added to this is accomplished alumna, Kate Woods (Hector, Class of 1999) whose leadership as Captain of the Women's Team is driving them toward victory!

Let’s cheer them on as they go for gold in the finals on Monday when the Men's Team faces England, and the Women's Team takes on the Netherlands.
