Wedding dress trends as seen at The New York Bridal Fashion Week Fall 2025.

CORSETS
Can you say "snatched"? The New York Bridal Fashion Week 2025 was brimming with designs featuring corsetry with exposed boning. Collections also had more subtle takes on corsetry as many gowns include hidden boning, which offers brides the ability to adjust their figures without revealing the corset beneath.

BASQUE WAISTS
Defined with either a U- or V-shaped dip at the waistline, this style helps create that sculpted, nipped-in look thanks to the curve of the fabric.

EMBELLISHMENTS
Many of this season’s gowns incorporate plenty of crystals, pearls, and shimmering elements to bring sparkle to wedding day ensembles. Think shimmering fabrics, subtle metallics and beautiful beading.

SHEER ELEGANCE
The sheer look has been gaining momentum on the NYBFW runways. Perfect for the high-fashion bride looking for something with just a touch on the edgier side.

STATEMENT SLEEVES

WHAT TO DO IF YOUR WEDDING DRESS DOESN'T FIT

Your wedding day is finally here! Your hair and make-up is perfectly done and you begin to slip into your dress, only to realise it doesn't fit! This can happen due to bloating and water retention. Within seconds your perfect day feels ruined, but here are a few tips to help save the day. 

Step 1 
Don't panic! 

Step 2
Make sure the gown is in the right place before starting. The gown should be at the waist, and adjust your bust to sit in the cups.

Step 3
It usually requires 2 people to get into your gown. Position 1 person in front of you, and the 2nd person behind you. Take a breath and then let all your air out, deflating your rib cage. Person 1 at your front holds your gown in place, and person 2 at your back should look for the small hook and eye at the top of the zipper and hook them together.

Step 4
Person 1 holds your gown at the waist and pushes all the fabric of the gown towards the back, giving person 2 as much extra room as possible to zip up the dress. An important thing to remember is to not stress the zipper. The last thing you want is for the zipper to break.

(If you only have 1 person helping, that person should be at your back. You hold the dress in place and push the fabric towards the back while the other person does the hook and zip.)

If the dress is too tight, keep it on for a while and let the dress adjust and conform to your body, then try to zip it up little by little. It may zip up much easier after five minutes.

You can also try removing some of the paddings of your bra, as this will loosen up your bust area.

Don't go to your dress appointment with a big entourage. You'll feel outnumbered by all the voices. Only bring someone whose opinion you truly respect and want.

Elle's Tip #2
Be open-minded. Have an idea of what you want but be open to trying on different silhouettes. You might just find a dress you love!

Decide on a budget and communicate that with your consultant. 

Elle's Tip #4
Bring a pair of heels to your fitting appointment if you know the height of the heel you're planning to wear.

Time to shop!
If possible, midweek appointments are best when boutiques are less busy.
