Cereal is a food made from processed grains that is often eaten as breakfast.

The word cereal comes from Cerealia, the name of ancient Roman ceremonies that honored Ceres, the goddess of grain.

The first ready-to-eat breakfast cereal, Granula was invented in the United States in 1863 by James Caleb Jackson.

Cereal is often eaten cold with with milk, yogurt, and sometimes fruit, but may be eaten dry.

Breakfast cereal companies make gluten-free cereals for consumers who suffer from Celiac Disease.

2. PERISHABLE FOODS

Perishable foods should never be thawed on the counter, or in hot water and must not be left at room temperature for more than two hours.
The food could be in the "Danger Zone," between 40 and 140 °F — temperatures where bacteria multiply rapidly.

There are three safe ways to thaw food:

1. In the refrigerator: Items such as ground meat, stew meat, poultry, seafood, should remain safe and good quality for an additional day or two before cooking; red meat cuts (such as beef, pork or lamb roasts, chops and steaks) 3 to 5 days.

2. In cold water: The food must be in a leak-proof package or plastic bag. If the bag leaks, bacteria from the air or surrounding environment could be introduced into the food.

3. In the microwave: After thawing in the microwave, always cook immediately after, whether microwave cooking, by conventional oven, or grilling. danger zone is between 40 and 140 degrees Fahrenheit; this is the range of temperatures where bacteria thrive. Stay safeđź‘Š

1. COLESLAW AND POTATO SALAD

Coleslaw and potatoe salads can be left out at room temperature for up to two hours. After two hours, harmful bacteria can start to grow. Even if the coleslaw and potato salad was stored in the refrigerator prior to serving, it could quickly dip into what food safety rules call the "Danger Zone" after being set out. I was doing research today on an initiative I was thinking of kicking off as part on my company "McPherson Food" 10th year anniversary. I came across an organisation called “Chefs With Compassion” and it’s very similar to what I intendant to kick off. After reading the statement below, which I found on their site and looking at the numbers my heart sank to my stomach. However it has motivated me and I believe every extra hand can never be too much.

“Every day, approximately 20 million people go to sleep hungry. Shockingly, around 12 million tonnes of perfectly edible food goes to waste every year – which is more than enough to feed every hungry person. The Challenge is a nationwide opportunity for every single person in South Africa to help feed hungry people – and to raise awareness of the need to address this imbalance and find ways to redirect nutritious food that will go to waste into hungry tummies”
