GibaLand is a small part of the greater Giba Gorge Mountain Bike park, which has a perennial stream, with magnificent spectacular waterfalls, and many Cycle, Walking and Horse trails through Forests and African Bush, teeming with Birdlife and small game. Giba Gorge forms part of the valley of a thousand hills, it is a tourist destination within 30 min from Durban’s main beaches, and uShaka Marine world, as well as 15 min from Pinetown/Hillcrest/kloof areas and adjacent to the N3 Highway
My Name is Louis Goncalves, I have a landscaping background (amongst others) and live presently in Giba Gorge on a rented stand. I recently purchased 22 Hectares of “my little bit of Heaven” and have a vision and some goals for this land. I would like to, leave as small a footprint as possible, from an ecological point of you, and be self sustainable, off-grid and where possible to utilise materials from the land.
SHORT TERM GOALS: Clear a small portion of the land, set up rudimentary infrastructure, like toilets, showers, central kitchen, “braai” (barbeque) areas, camping areas. and landscape gardens for visitors, bikers, hikers and local residents to enjoy. This area to be big enough to set up Marquees, tents etc. for functions and have adjacent land for parking. I would like to obviously make the area as safe as possible for everyone to relax and engage with nature
MEDIUM TERM GOALS: To set up a small conference “type” venue, for running programs for children and adults, similar to “veld school” as well as various DIY and self help courses. This venue needs to be Multi-functional, and could be used for small functions, Yoga and fitness classes, ceremonies, etc. I would like to also set up a small store/coffee shop, with basic essentials and serving wholesome food. I would like to set up organic growing areas, for fruit, vegetables and nuts, as well as medicinal plants.
