Helitack crews are battling on this afternoon in their rotary-winged helicopters, lifting and transporting much needed water from the Eikenhof Dam to the mountainous area near us which is being affected. This, in a dire effort to try and contain the Hanskop fire which started at around 02h00 this morning.

We had to stop and admire these ๐๐ธ๐พ๐ท๐ฝ๐ช๐ฒ๐ท ๐๐ฎ๐ป๐ท๐ผ which are busy re-establishing themselves along the banks of the stream which runs along the Elgin Grabouw Country Club Road (past the Proefplaas Dam). ๐ฟ
At this stage, they look like the Alsophila capensis, more commonly known as the "forest tree fern", which are a regionally widespread and highly variable species of tree fern indigenous to Southern Africa.
There is a possibility that they could even be Sphaeropteris cooperi, also known as the "lacy tree fern", "scaly tree fern", or "Cooper's tree fern", an invasive fern specie native to Australia.

The ๐๐ฒ๐ด๐ฎ๐ท๐ฑ๐ธ๐ฏ ๐๐ช๐ถ bursting its' banks and overflowing is always such a remarkable and captivating phenomenon here at the Club. ๐
We cannot refer to this occurrence as an annual one, as we too are not unfamiliar to the dreaded winter drought which has been known to menace our region in the past. This makes this particular event, even more spectacular. When the Eikenhof Dam reaches 100% (some will arguably agree 101%) full capacity, then we certainly do pop a cork (or two) in celebration thereof. ๐ฅ
We love sharing this mid-winter moment with our followers who cannot experience it in person, as this particular location is only accessible by mountain bike when venturing out on the "Wilde Willie" MTB trail which departs from the main Clubhouse and ventures out along the dam. ๐ตโโ๏ธ๐ตโโ๏ธ
