Mooihoek Farm is a family-run 3rd generation farm located in Hankey within the picturesque Gamtoos valley of the Eastern Cape (80km from the Gateway City of Port Elizabeth). The farm is managed by Madelé and Johan Ferreira along with an enthusiastic team of leaders.
Mooihoek produce & supply fresh packed strawberries, blueberries and raspberries as well as packed spinach for 12 months of the year. Frozen Strawberries and Raspberries as well as dried strawberries, citrus and figs are also produced under the brand DRiNK Infusion. Their superior produce can be found mainly in chain stores within the Eastern Cape region such as Spar, Pick n Pay, Shoprite, Checkers and Food Lover’s market.
Each December, the strawberry farm opens it’s fields to the public and offer a “Pick your own strawberries” experience to visitors of this gorgeous part of the world. With a choice of tub sizes, it’s a real fun family activity. Delicious beverages such as strawberry smoothies, strawberry juice, water are also available for purchase at the fields.
Other nearby activities include “mountain climbing” up to the famous and equally as beautiful “Bergvenster” (which translates as “Mountain Window”). This natural phenomenon provides breathtaking panoramic views over the valley and is suitable for ages 5 & up. Approximately 30 minutes of climbing is required and is absolutely worth the effort. Water and some comfortable shoes are all that is required. The Phillips tunnel can also be found close to our picnic area.
