With any kind of special event planning, there is a lengthy checklist of things to do. And with all that work and planning ahead, you may want to first check that you’re up for job at hand. If you find you aren’t quite ready for the challenge, hiring an experienced event planner is the best way to go.

Gather all the references and reviews you can to help you make your choice. Good references will boost your confidence when you choose to book them. Once you’ve identified your perfect planner, you can get in touch and make sure they’re open for your event date and have the capacity available to handle the job.

Ideally, you’ll want to be in contact with your event planner all the time. You may find that you spend countless hours with them and have many lunch meetings trying to plan your perfect event.

You will need to stay involved with certain processes – like picking out décor and making final decisions about the flow of the event proceedings. With a good event planner onboard, you’re still in control but someone else handles all the time-consuming legwork and annoying details.

Never forget, the event planner works for you. So, don’t be afraid to let them know what you want. Be open with them and communicate the essential “must-haves” that will make your event turn out the way you want it to.

This is the only way you’ll be able to have that “party of the season” that will amaze your guests and keep people talking long after it’s all over. After all, you obviously want to feel good about what you’ve done.

🤑 Get the price right.

Unfortunately, nobody works for free. At the end of the day, you will have to pay the event planner and they are often not cheap. Finalise all your costs upfront before you sign on the dotted line. And don’t be afraid to ask questions to ensure you’re hiring the right professional – and can afford them.

Also, make sure you have a written contract in place. You’ll need protection in case anything goes wrong, so you aren’t responsible for paying them if they don’t complete the job as they have agreed to.

If an event planner is just a little out of your budget, maybe it’s time to call in a few favors with your friends so you aren’t carrying all the load by yourself.

When you are confident in your event planner – even if that planner is you and your personal crew; you’ll know you can expect a great party – and hopefully one that will be remembered for years to come.
