Let’s start July musing 💭 💛🖤🤍
Creativity is a wild mind and a disciplined eye.

We saw the line, attributed to Dorothy Parker, and fell for it on the spot.

So we did the thing we always do. We went looking for where it came from. Turns out nobody can quite prove she said it. But the digging led us something better than the quote did.
Musing 💭 🤩💫⭐️

The wild mind runs ahead and finds the possibilities. The disciplined eye decides which one is true. One without the other is either noise, or something beautifully made that says nothing at all.

Curiosity finds the directions. The eye chooses the direction.

Which, when you say it out loud, is more or less our name.

First the hand moves. Then the idea arrives.

We like to think good ideas arrive fully formed. They rarely do. They turn up as a scribble in the corner of a page, a shape you draw while thinking about something else, a few lines on the back of a napkin.

And the napkin is no cliché. When Citigroup was born from a merger in 1998, “the goddess of graphic design” Paula Scher drew the new identity by hand, in the room, while the clients were still talking. More than twenty-five years later, that same mark is still the Citi logo you see today. She tells the story herself in the fab Netflix series Abstract: The Art of Design, well worth a watch. (Season 1, ep 6).

Drawing isn’t what you do once you have the idea. Drawing is how the idea finds itself.

This is the actual page of our CD logo revamp. Our designer, circling the same chevron again and again, trying it as a C, as a D, until the shape settled and the two letters found their own colours. The mark you know now was hiding here all along.

So put pen to paper. Follow the line and see where it goes.

That’s where the magic begins.

By the end of the week, even creativity needs to exhale 😮‍💨
The weekend is a reminder to reset and realign.

Mind.
Body.
Spirit.

To step back from the noise.
To alter the thinking.
To delete what no longer serves.

Because rest is not the opposite of creativity.
It’s part of the process.
