How do I do my baby portraits? ✏️

After sketching-out the basic lines and shapes for proportion, I then do a very light sketch in one shade with a blunt 2H pencil. I then go in with the sharp 3B and 8B pencils to create some contrast with darker eyes, nostrils and any other ‘shadowy’ parts of the face. My golden rule is always - keep it simple and keep it clean.

My Art style and process:

I create art mostly for dopamine hits and recognition (honestly) but I’m working on creating for the sake of creating.

I can’t paint or draw unless I’m on a complete high - never when I’m down. It takes a lot to get me there but once I’m standing infront of the easel, you won’t get me away from it until I’m satisfied that I’ve created something that I’m willing to show people - that’s why I do all my artworks in one sitting.

I usually start with a basic concept and then step back momentarily and play around with ideas (often using mark-up on my phone).

If the artwork is unsuccessful in my eyes, I am a terrible person to be around for the next few hours. (Ask my husband).

I enjoy working with shades of black and white and tend to shy away from colour. Faces and personalities are my biggest inspiration and I can appreciate all kinds of humans, especially those that confess to being flawed and complex.

So… confession time… yesterday, my crazy artist alter ego came out and I was in TEARS over this painting 😂 Some of you may have noticed how I posted and deleted it twice!

This is what “ Bliss” would look like hanging in your home 😍 It’s a fairly big painting and has a lot of different textures. Although it is already on a stretched canvas, I think a simple frame around it would add to it. No glass front - this is an oil painting after all 😎

I’ve started oil painting again after a two year hiatus; here is:

“Bliss”

For the first two hours I was hating the painting, hating myself, hating life… but now I keep sneaking into my studio to peek at it 🥰

My paintings are not neat or technically accurate.. but they are always a little piece of my personality and what I think is beautiful - humanness 🫶🏼 This painting is about information overload and turning off our senses.
