We’ve got an art exhibition for Nathan and David's Art today accompanied by their incredible art teacher Art By Yakira G!

As their art teacher, I am so proud to invite you to join myself and my incredibly talented 12 year old students in their breakout exhibition “Colour My World”.

I have taught Nathan and David for almost 3 years now, and though they both deal with significant medical challenges and seldomly leave the house, their amazing (and honestly prodigal) talent shines through in each piece they create both in class and out.

The exhibition will be open from 10h00 to 13h00.

I look forward to seeing you there! Please feel free to share with family and friends. Come through and enjoy their talent (and listen to me brag about how talented they are!) I will also have a few works on display. All works are available for purchase.

May 2021 vs. January 2024. It's been a brutal three year process to transform our hybrid eventing venue and video studio from an old gym to modern industrial content creation hub (each image has its own caption) 🤯

Today, we work with some of the most incredible clients, both big and small. We are particularly proud of the repeat clients we have because this tells us we're doing something right.

The Tryst isn't perfect but it's the best version of itself and that's what fills our hearts with pride. Every month we do something small to make the space better. We host free Suits & Sneakers here and we create our Like a Tourist videos from here. We also support many other small businesses by creating content about them and publishing it on our social channels at no cost to them.

If ever you require a space to host a corporate event or record any kind of video, podcast, etc. then we would ask you to consider us. We're a small business that NEVER takes any support for granted and we always go above and beyond to try keep our clients happy.

There has to be something to look forward to in our crazy South African climate, right?

RIGHT!

Our brand, Like a Tourist, a part of The Tryst, has made it into the spring edition of the Vitality Traveller Magazine.

Why, you ask?

BECAUSE SOUTH AFRICA HAS SO MUCH TO OFFER!

Yes, there are "downers" that we could speak about until the cows come home, but there is also so much light and excitement.

"Like a Tourist acts an an informal tour guide, and shares things to do and places to visit that weren't on their radar."

A big thank you to these amazing brands, Discovery South Africa and Discovery Vitality, enabling us to travel, capture and edit incredible experiences, showcase wonderous places and spaces, and adventure till we drop - all in the name of South Africa!

What an honour it is working with such talented individuals within our team such as our fearless (crazy) leader, Mark Sham and the oddly excellent, Jeandre Martin Strydom.

We had our "side hustle" event last night at The Tryst. We were lucky to have and to join on stage. Such a lovely event with even more lovely guests🥰

Start with a bowl of soup.

A quiet moment at the office usually lends itself to a visit from Mpho Telile, a visitor from an office not too far away, that pops in during her lunch breaks in search of a quiet creative space to write, read, or even reflect.

Feeling completely defeated after receiving some bad news at work, she had some thoughts whilst sitting on the bench near where Judi Van den Berg (our Catering Manager) was preparing some fresh tomato soup for the week.

Here’s what she shared with us:

“Are we looking too far when looking to find a starting point?

Do we actually know what we need to do in order to start fresh, or is there a list of the steps we can follow?

I haven't started many things in my life that are vastly different from anyone else before me - which freaks me out when going through what feels like a “first-time-ever” life experience, the dreaded RETRENCHMENT or END OF CONTRACT.

Catching my breath and clearing my head on a bench at The Tryst, with the scent of sweet tomatoes in the air, I came across Judi, who introduced me to a new concept, as she kindly called me over and handed me a bowl of warm soup. (I foresee this concept changing my life for the better.)

"Start with a bowl of soup" – a gesture of kindness and hint of reality. To me, this sounded and felt like a hug and sign from above, reassurance that whatever my next steps will be, are exactly the steps I need be taking.
All is not lost.
A glimmer of hope.

You are ok, I thought to myself.

We’ve got some exciting news!! Our sister brand, Like a Tourist] is an official partner of Discovery Bank and Vitality Travel ✈️🚗🇿🇦

Why is this so exciting for us?

Despite what is happening in the country right now, there is still so much beauty, the people and cultures are incredible and there just is no place like home. Our Like A Tourist brand was created to encourage locals to act like tourists in their own cities, towns and country. Discovery Bank and Vitality Travel are helping us amplify this movement by 1. Allowing more South Africans to travel through their amazing discounts and 2. Amplifying us to create travel content so that we can capture the beauty of South Africa in all its glory.

At the end of the day, experiences make us happy, food makes us excited, people make us feel so welcomed and travel makes us exhilarated. If we can encourage South Africans to travel and see more, through a brand that is enabling this, then this is our perfect match.

This brand was an idea 6 months ago. Today, our idea has turned into a real business and we feel that this brand is going to bring so much good to our country.

𝐖𝐢𝐥𝐥 𝐀𝐈 𝐫𝐞𝐩𝐥𝐚𝐜𝐞 𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐜𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐬?

Will it impact employment? Will you just need one person for fact-checking, while AI creates all the creative content?

Simply put, no. "AI augments the human experience, but it doesn't replace the human within that experience. We value writers in our society because they're able to give us thought-provoking human perspectives on the world. It isn't just about summarising facts that are out there." (Sumyutha Reddy)

However, content creators will need to re-skill. This isn't a bad thing. Every big shift in technology has forced humans to adapt and change. What AI will allow humans to do, is to focus more on their humanness - their skills, creativity, forming opinions, adding unique tones and perspectives. AI will be there to assist in providing more informative information - basically a content creator's efficient side-kick.

A copywriter can write a blog and then use AI to re-format it for his/her social posts and paid ads. You will always need a human behind the AI to fact-check, and make sure it's aligned and makes sense.

So, let's be those people that choose to embrace this new technology. Let's upskill ourselves to utilise it in the best way. Get there first, and you'll be miles ahead of the pack.
