Proof of life post 😂🙈

Sjo- this year has been magical and hard all at once. Juggling being a work from home mama (keeping a human and a business alive) is no small undertaking.

And my lack of posting is definitely proof of how some things have just taken priority.

I've actually loved 'stepping back' from the pressure of posting on here.

My focus has been on the 'behind the scenes' my brides, choosing a lesser workload so I can show up fully for my brides, and keep up with my workload while juggling the nap time hustle (and being present with Tobi as he grows)

It's been a year of 'less is more' and I'm grateful for it.

Contrary to popular belief - you can't do it all and do it well, and choosing to take on less work this year has been one of the best I've ever made. Mentally, creatively and for my family.

My year is pretty much fully booked (and I only have a handful of dates that I'm taking on for next year, so I can keep showing up for my brides in the way I would like to)

Mom's I get it now, your usually the one with your camera phone in hand, always taking the pics and seldom get those snugly pics of you and your bug.

So let's just say - family shoots have a new meaning to me now.

Last week I got to take pics of my dear friends, or was gloriously chaotic (but real and fun!) filled with tears, laughter, baby shark remixes and all the snuggles.

It's been a month of new and firsts.

We're settling into a new normal of little sleep, unwashed hair, eating everything with one hand, and trying to figure out who he looks like (he's got my pinky toe so far - it's not much, but I'll take it 😂)

So, emails are a bit slow, social media might not be a priority but life is pretty special outside of the algorithm.

Yeah, no one ever warned you of the rollercoaster of conflicting and crazy emotions you’ll feel as a wedding photogrpaher. Sometimes on a day-to-day basis sometimes!​​​​​​​​

It’s almost hilarious, the amount of extremes you can encounter in an 8-hour period.​​​​​​​​
​​​​​​​​
But at the end of the day, if you’re really doing what you love, would you cash all those emotions in for anything else?​​​​​​​​
​​​​​​​​
“Entrepreneurs are the only people who will work 80 hours a week for themselves to avoid working 40 hours a week for someone else.”​​​​​​​​
​​​​​​​​
But let me just tell you this: pursuing your dreams doesn’t have to burn you out.​​​​​​​​

I know there are times you’re EXTRA tired from the hard work, but make sure you set a reminder to draw a line in the sand to rest!​​​​​​​​

Take it from me - I've been there (overachieving and burning the candle at all the ends)​​​​​​​​
​​​​​​​​
Once I learned to step back, take a day and switch off - my work actually got better.​​​​​​​​

Mind clearer, purpose brighter, energy and drive restored.​​​​​​​​

👉🏼 AH MAN! Those two have the sweetest freakin’ love story ever!!!!! They are so in love!!! He just couldn’t keep his eyes off of her, I bet he cries when she walks down the aise.​​​​​​​​

👉🏼 Okay, I LOVE their venue!! Man, I hope we get some good sunlight! I’m already mapping out where I want to do their couple session – and dreaming up composition ideas, and photo inspiration to tell their story!​​​​​​​​

👉🏼 Serious!!! I love it when a couple decides to embrace who they are, and break away from tradition to plan an intentional wedding! ​​​​​​​​

It’s been a crazy good year, I could honestly cry 😭🙌🏼 I have a LOT to say about all the changes that have been happening in my heart and business over these last few month, the Lord has been so faithful, but I wanted to start with this:
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
So much of my day-to-day job (and life) is not very glamorous. Charging batteries for the 1000th time, culling and formatting cards, writing another blog post, cleaning gear, copying and backing up photos, answering emails with questions I get over and over again, washing dishes, vacuuming the floor, changing another nappy (not complaining, just honestly sharing the non glamorous reality)
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
And it’s easy to get bogged down by the mundane, unglamorous, same-old-same-old ‘unimportant’ tasks, but I know this:
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
IT’S BEING FAITHFUL IN THE SMALL THINGS that really matter. In the small unimportant, no-one see’s it parts that prepares you, grows you, and challenges you.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I just wanted to encourage someone else out there:
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
The little, mundane, “unimportant” tasks can sometimes be the biggest. Those little tasks and decisions add up really fast.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Practice being faithful. Exactly. 👏🏼 Where. 👏🏼 You. 👏🏼 Are. 👏🏼 in doing the chores you hate, in consistently working out, in eating well, taking one hard step on a new skill each day, in going to work with a joyful attitude... with every little thing in your life.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
OWN IT.
BE FAITHFUL.
SHOW UP.
EMBRACE IT.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Because when you’re faithful with those small, “unimportant tasks,” it prepares you for so much more of the ‘big’ stuff.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

The thing is - EVERYONE STARTS AS A NOVICE.​​​​​​​​

The thing that separates the 'greats' from everyone else, is this:​​​​​​​​

They didn't give up, especially not after the first few tries.​​​​​​​​

Being a successful girl boss is not about raw talent and effortless wins - it's about starting and showing up again and again.​​​​​​​​

One of the things about photography that still blows my mind - is how much emotion, energy and 'story' can be captured in a single image.

Here's your sign that you need to plan a morning wedding, go gallivanting on your favourite beach with your love, and have a uniquely beautiful wedding day.​​​​​​​​

Thiago and Kim were originally going to get married on the beach, but due to bad weather in the morning, they had to pivot their plans to their backup location.​​​​​​​​
​​​​​​​​
That didn't stop us from jumping in the car after the ceremony (when the sun was back out) and doing a pretty epic couple session in a place that was special to them.​​​​​​​​

I find that mindsets around wedding days are so important - and I've been so inspired by how amazingly so my couples have been at rolling with the punches (navigating last minute changes and unpredictable circumstance) and their mindset around the day has meant that they still having the best.day.ever!​​​​​​​​

THIS WORKSHOP IS UNLIKE ANYTHING I'VE COME ACROSS BEFORE!

I FEEL A NEW CONFIDENCE IN MY ABILITY TO PHOTOGRAPH HUMAN CONNECTION LIKE NEVER BEFORE...​​​​​​​​
​​​​​​​​
Last year, I had the privilege to host my first ever photography workshop - CONNECT.​​​​​​​​
​​​​​​​​
One of the reasons I dreamed of hosting this workshop, is because I know how much pressure photographers are under ’ to ‘get that shot’ to be 'all things to all people', and how easy it feel like it’s all up to them.​​​​​​​​
​​​​​​​​
I know what it feels like to have a 'brain fart’ mid session and have no idea how to make a client feel comfortable or what to do next.​​​​​​​​
​​​​​​​​
BUT- I know it's possible to create a space for real emotion, real intimacy and real connection during a session, that leaves a client with more than a killer photo, but with unforgettable memories.​​​​​​​​ (and say goodbye to brain farts mid session)

So I've been keeping a little secret.....

Our camera crew is growing. 🤰👶👩‍🍼

Our little adventure buddy is joining the team in September and we're pretty stoked to welcome him into our lives.

A few of you have known about our little bundle of joy, and a few know that it's been a bitter sweet journey.

When we found out in January that we were expecting, we were surprised with twins, but unfortunately we lost our one baby at around 15 weeks, so in between a busy wedding season, this mama has been processing a lot.

But we're very grateful that our little boy is growing strong and healthy and is already kicking up a strom.

Can't wait to meet you little one 💕👩‍🍼
