On Mandela Day 2024, we had the privilege of visiting two wonderful facilities dedicated to enhancing the quality of life for their visitors and surrounding communities.

Our first visit was to the The Little Rose Centre in Kliptown, Soweto, a creche, shelter, and youth center. This center offers early childhood education, shelter for homeless youth, after-school activities, homework assistance, and a feeding scheme. Teams from the Johannesburg Expo Centre, Dogan Exhibition and Events ( Rand Show ), and GL events collaborated to help by repairing the ceilings in two classrooms, painting the fences, and providing groceries to support the feeding scheme.

We also visited the Ephraim Senior Centre in Mfolo Central, Soweto, which provides assisted living care for the elderly citizens of Soweto. This center has several departments, and our teams focused on the frail care unit, performing maintenance tasks such as painting, replacing damaged infrastructure, and providing groceries.

Mandela Day reminded us all of the importance of contributing to positive change in the world.

Our Story

The Johannesburg Expo Centre is South Africa’s largest purpose-built exhibition Conference, Convention, Festival and Events venue. Some of the biggest events that have been hosted here include historical events like the 125-year-old Rand Show, Electra Mining and more recent key events include the Mandela centenary dinner, ANC Policy conference and the international Ultra Music Festival. Being known for its flexibility, the JEC can host events for 100 to 10 000 people. The venue offers a versatile space with a mixture of large indoor halls and ample outdoor areas including a lake and large outdoor concert arena. A mere 30 minutes away from all major airports, the JEC’s 150 000m² of space and 20 000 plus parking bays can host more than 100 000 visitors per event.
