Polar Dust – Fragmented Veil

🎶 STARING AT ME AND I’M LEFT INSIDE THIS VOID 🎶

Fragmented Veil is ‘s second full-length album, and it is nothing if not absolutely freaking gorgeous! It bathes you in gothy goodness, and we can’t get enough!

The song writing is beautifully honest, precise and moving. The album alternates between energised and forward-looking, romantic and serious, bass-heavy and dissonant, industrial, grunge, shoegaze (and about a thousand others); but stays stunningly retro. Every track has it’s own character, but the album is so beautifully mixed and mastered that if you’re not perceptive you’ll miss the track changes. Everything sits perfectly.

According to Polar Dust, the album deals with ‘introspection, loss, hope and ultimately rebirth’, and this is portrayed in the feeling and atmosphere of every track. Tracks like Rebirth of the Dead portray the band’s Post Punk roots, but they’ve fused and moulded about 20 others to produce the songs leading up to that point. A synth-wave inspired rendition of Eurythmics’ ‘Here Comes the Rain Again’ (that we can’t stop listening to), the driving and reflective ‘Siamese’ and the haunting title track, ‘Fragmented Veil’ to name but a few.

Polar Dust ripped up a packed Room 2 on Friday last week, and it was freaking hypnotic! We’re hoping we can convince them to play a bit more in the coming year 😉. are back! Emperor is their latest release in this EP arc (if you will) – and wow…these dudes must be some of the most prolific writers and performers in the scene right now!

Emperor stands apart from most of Acid Magus’ tracks with its darker, heavier, and more expansive sound. From the very first note, the track plunges into a doomy, fuzz-laden
mesh that’s both beautifully mixed and energetic. The opening line—“I ate the bloody heart of a man” brings you right into their world. Dreamy and ethereal, the vocals create a stark contrast to the song’s crushing heaviness.

The mix sits so beautifully it feels like you can hear every fret slide and ghost note. It’s powerful, thick and punchy, but it feels like every instrument, clip or reverb has it’s own little pocket. It’s no mean feat getting about 65,000 track layers to all agree and pull in a direction, and they’ve done it really well. The tone of the distorted guitars is the stuff dreams are made of. Octopus dreams...

who are we

in 2015 we fell in love with analog equipment and started sognage as a passion project. in so doing we realised that, despite the massive trend towards digitisation, there is a lot to be said for a signal physically moving through circuitry. it has more 'umph' if you will.

the blatant disregard for south african consumers in general, and specifically in the professional audio realm, is what drove us to create a company that is consumer-centric at it's core.
