Our Story
As the name of our Club indicates, floral arrangement is an art form and thus it embraces many styles. The aim of the club is to promote floral arranging and to encourage the advancement of the members by means of demonstrations, workshops and monthly competitions. Similarly, the monthly sharing of the joy of flowers goes far beyond the competitions.
Demonstrations: Demonstrating is an extension of floral art and give the viewer a practical insight into the theory. There are three types of demonstration - teaching, entertaining and exhibition. Subjects or themes are chosen with a view to encouraging all floral artists and we aim to expose our members to all styles of flower arranging. Our demonstrators are invited not only from Club members but also from elsewhere in South Africa with a view to imparting their knowledge and exhibiting their particular talents.
Club Projects: We try to convene at least one major function per annum to which the public is exposed to 'Floral Art' and where we draw on the talents and assistance of all Club members. Although, these projects involve hard work, we have a lot of fun and make many friends in the process. The spirit and friendship engendered on these occasions are well worth any effort an individual may make.Visitors are always welcomed . just have an interest in flowers .
South African Flower Union: Otherwise known as SAFU. This is the body, which creates a platform for our Club to be exposed to National and International Floral Artists. Although our area falls within the Western Cape, our members affiliate to SAFU through the Eastern Cape Floral Art Association, Port Elizabeth being the closest centre to Knysna. SAFU lays down the rules of judging, trains and sets judges, teachers and demonstrators examinations. Part of the member's annual subscription is paid over to SAFU.
