ABOUT OUR SPEAKER
Mrs. Deirdre Watson Meijers is renowned for her multifaceted expertise as a venture builder, integrated strategist, creative director, projects and innovation consultant, partnership creator, entrepreneur, artist, and designer, spanning conceptual, spatial, and systems design. She graduated Cum Laude from Stellenbosch University, where she majored in psychology, research, and arts. Her academic work focused on conceptualisation, with a keen eye on addressing social inequalities and challenging societal norms and beliefs through the innovative design of functional and inclusive clothing. Mrs. Meijers further augmented her academic portfolio with a Master’s degree (Higher Second) from Wits University in conceptual arts, delving into the exploration of creative thinking within the business sector for the purpose of fostering innovative transformation, addressing (dis)placement, and catalyzing disruption.
Mrs. Meijers has consistently dedicated her efforts towards the business sector, aiming to strategically and creatively navigate challenges by leveraging innovative concepts and actualizing these ideas through an array of channels — including but not limited to technological solutions and development, architectural (spatial) solutions, and product design. Her reputation as an adept executioner is well established and supported by various accolades. Her achievements include a significant tenure in the UK, where she engaged with the University of Oxford, acquainting herself with open strategies and design thinking methodologies.
With a distinguished background in strategic brand leadership and creative communication, augmented by numerous diplomas from Vega School, as well as expertise in disruptive strategies and design thinking, Mrs. Meijers has made significant strides in transforming businesses through her strategic innovations.
Her commitment to continuous learning and development is further underscored by her completion of higher education certificate courses at prestigious institutions such as the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (focusing on Innovation of Product and Services: MIT’s Approach to Design Thinking) and Harvard Business School Online (covering Disruptive Strategy, Global Business, and Business Strategy). Central to Mrs. Meijers's ethos is the advancement of individuals towards their purpose, a principle that she embodies in all her professional endeavors.
