Schaftplaas was proclaimed in the late 1700’s when Simon van der Stel proclaimed it as a farm to the Frijburgers. The farm originated next to a natural fresh water fountain. Hendrik Albertyn built the house in 1832.
The farmers from inland used to bring fresh produce to the ships that visited Saldanha Bay harbour. They used Schaftplaas as a resting haven, to feed the oxen and get fresh water supplies. Hence the origin of the name, “schaft” means ‘‘to eat”.
The cannons from the ships were used to announce the number of days until they reach the shore. One canon shot equals one day from land. It took the farmers one full day to travel form Schaftplaas to Saldanha Harbour.
The farm has now been developed into a function venue and accommodation to share our history with the public.
Schaftplaas has been owned by the Kruger family since 1993. Even though I work full time, I host weddings and functions simply because I love doing it. You can expect from us, the Schaftplaas team, service with passion, meticulous attention to detail and a real commitment to making your dreams come true. It is our pride and pleasure to share our beautiful homestead with you.
THE VENUE:
The venue offers a fantastic ambience which you will not believe. It is rustic, but extremely beautiful. The setting is partially outdoors. We pitch a huge Bedouin-type tent to connect the buildings, which provides a huge covered area that includes an ample dance area, a cash bar facility and a lounge area, from where we also do the catering. The venue can accommodate 50 to 200 guests with ease. The decor is beautifully complemented by rustic floors and a huge fireplace, while blinds roll up to create a stunning, low veld lapa feel. Your guests can enjoy champagne and exquisite canapés on the lawn whilst the sun sets over the West Coast.
The venue is versatile and can be adapted effortlessly to your personal taste.
A real West Coast-styled bar, hosting legendary stories, guarantees a great vibe where no-one feels excluded from the party. Rustic, yet fully equipped restrooms, including hot-water showers, are located close by.
Log fires and strand-on-strand fairy lights create a magical atmosphere.
We have a very unique, quaint little chapel on the farm, situated in a barn over 150 years old. It can seat 70 guests on hay bales fitted with seat covers.
Alternatively, we can do the wedding ceremony in the veld amongst the blue- gum trees, or on the lawns next to the reception area. The bride can be transported to the ceremony in a horse-drawn cart.
We have wooden tables and chairs, a range of décor items and most other props required. You really do not have to run around. However, should you wish to hire additional equipment, such as different chairs, gazebos, or a carpet, it will be for your own account. A handling fee of R1000.00 will be charged.
We also offer facilities for the bridal party to get dressed. This makes it possible for the photographer to cover both the bride and the groom’s preparations before the ceremony. The main manor, cottages and the farmyard, dating from 1832, provide a host of beautiful photography settings with lots of character.

As a gift to all the brides getting married at Schaftplaas Events Venue, We offer a free, full-time wedding coordinator, dedicated to your special function. This includes liaison with your MC and ensures supervision from set-up, throughout the event, up to breaking down, to ensure that your event runs smoothly. No need to worry and run around for anything before, during and after your big day.

*Typical braai barbecues are served upon request and a private bar in the main building provides the chance to relax with a fresh drink or beverage.
*All our rooms includes facilities such as comfortable beds with fresh, clean linen of good quality, bath robes and towels, coffee/tea tray, microwave, bar fridge and we have free WiFi access but no television since you are here to unwind and relax.
West Coast National Park, West Coast Fossil Park, Golf Course, Langebaan Lagoon and beach, Club Mykonos, beach front restaurants and tourist shops.
Horse riding, game viewing, swimming, boat trips, fishing trips, can all be arranged within 18 km from Schaftplaas.
A stones throw away inland, is world famous wine estates such as Swartland Wines, Darling and Riebeeck wines, and many other famous wine labels. Even Darling Brew (craft beer) is close by.
Schaftplaas is 18km from Langebaan, Club Mykonos Resort/Casino, restaurants, beach, golf course etc. and 17km from the quaint little town, Hopefield.
Langebaan is set in the Saldanha district, which is the playground of the Cape West Coast Peninsula, and natural water sport haven, within an hours’ drive from Cape Town. It's sandy beaches and calm waters borders the West Coast National Park and has many restaurants and accommodation on the banks of the Lagoon. These waters are well known as a paradise for bird watchers and is also the place where “Eve’s Footprint” was discovered. Our ancient history can further be explored at the Fossil Park just outside of town where the fossils of bears, sabre tooth cats, short necked giraffes and many other exotic animals, which inhabited the West Coast some 5 million years ago, can be viewed.
📷Langebaan is surrounded by many unique West Coast fishing villages such as Paternoster, which is renowned for its crayfish and hospitable locals, and Velddrift which is renowned for its West Coast Bokkoms (wind dried fish).
