Save this to remember the order of wedding speeches and who says what.
If you didn’t know before, now you do 😉
1) MC : welcome and house rules
2) FOB : a brief picture of the bride growing up and welcoming the groom into the family, don’t forget to toast the new Mr & Mrs!
3) BM / MOH : history of your friendships before the couple met each other, also NB : don’t forget to toast the bridal party!
4) Bride (if you’re wanting brave enough or really want to say something).
5) Groom goes last! He’s allowed a few extra minutes as his speech is the most important 👏

This is a HEATED topic doing the rounds at the moment, bridefriends!
A couple sent out wedding invitations with an RSVP deadline. All guests who RSVP’d *after* the deadline were told that RSVP’s were closed and guests who had missed the deadline would not be able to attend the wedding.
What do YOU think about this?
Knowing your numbers for your wedding is crucial in the planning process and especially in terms of your catering and hiring out items.
Last-minute additions normally come at an additional cost as well as additional stress it puts on you and your service providers.
So here’s what we want to know :
Do you think it’s rude if guests don’t honor your RSVP deadline? Because it’s there for a reason, right?
And more importantly, would you think it’s fair to decline RSVPS after a deadline? 🤷🏼♀️

2023 - You've been a CRACKER!
From a burst river overflowing our reception space, establishing our Cape Town branch, a wedding venue burning down, planning a 7 course tasting meal for 400 pax in 3 weeks - this year has been our BIGGEST adventure to date!
As we look back on 2023, we want to thank all our amazing clients who have believed in OHD enough for us to help make their "forever starts" possible.
Thank you for your friendships. Thank you for your trust. Thank you for referring us to future brides. Thank you for the sheer DELIGHT that each one of you has brought to our lives this year.
This post is for ALL of you as you take on 2024 as a married couple!!
Today, we lift you up with so much gratitude ❤️
Have you considered a 'first look' moment on your wedding day? This modern tradition, where the bride and groom see each other before the ceremony, is quickly becoming a favourite amongst our couples, and here's why. 👀💍
Not only does it make for beautifully intimate photos, but it allows a private moment of connection before the whirlwind of the day unfolds. A moment to take a breath, to admire each other, and to share in the excitement of what's about to happen. 🥂
At Oh Happy Day, we believe in creating experiences that resonate with our couples' unique love stories, and a first look is a wonderful opportunity to do just that. It's a space where love, anticipation, and joy converge – creating memories that last a lifetime. 💖
What do you think? Is a 'first look' something you'd incorporate into your wedding day? We'd love to hear your thoughts!

Have YOU got your girls? 💕
……and have your girls got YOU?
.
There’s no doubt that being a bridesmaid for your bestie is the hugest honour a person can ever ask of you.
.
You will be part of some very emotional moments that will happen on the wedding day, but your biggest role will be one of SUPPORT.
.
When it starts to rain, when there’s DIY’ing to do, when you need to fix a veil or help blot away a tear - there’s no doubt about the role your girls will play on the big day.💍
.
Here are OHD’s top 5 responsibilities:
(among many others) that you’ll need to fulfill as a bridesmaid:💕
.
1) Be her rock and go to person to lean on when things get tough or stressful.🫶🏼
2) Plan and contribute to the pre-wedding celebrations (monthly count downs, the kitchen tea and Bachelorette party). These don’t have to be break the bank gifts, but something to make the bride feel special.✨
3) Help with any last minute changes that might arise during the wedding planning.🤍
4) Listen to any complaints or worries, and keep your opinions to yourself (especially if you have conflicting opinions about choice of dress or the rest of the bridesmaids)💗
5) dress up and DANCE! A supportive happy retinue will keep the vibes going, and don’t forget that the party starts with YOU!🪩
Give your girls a shout out if you had the best bridesmaids ever on your big day! 👇🏼

We’re kickstarting the year with a fun new series for you, Bridefriends! Running through some common wedding myths and ideologies, and here to offer our opinions regarding myth vs. (our) truth. We can't wait to hear your opinions too 😉
1st Myth - Brides should wear a white wedding dress.
Backstory // The colour white at weddings was used to represent both a woman's chastity and purity (ahem), and was most popularised when Queen Victoria wore a white dress for her wedding in 1854 and it was this royal influence that made white a fashionable choice for wedding dresses, thereafter.
Fact // You should wear whatever you feel is most suitable for your complexion and body type on your wedding day. We love traditional white, but we ALSO love a stylish cream suit, floral print, or pale blush wedding dress. These days, it's all about your own sense of style and vision.
Don't be afraid to be your OWN INFLUENCE and push creative boundaries if colour is your vibe. We say rock your wedding, your own way! ✨
Are you going the traditional or non-traditional dress route? We'd love to know 👇🏼
As wedding designers who love to push creative boundaries, Wedding Trend Predictions are something we always look forward to proposing to our followers as we await a new year of joyous celebration.
For 2023, we say get ready for DOPAMINE WEDDINGS! And if you haven't heard about them before, pay close attention. 💫
Imagine:
1) Unabashed colour selections that lift your mood,
2) Wild patterns and "out there" florals on your tablescape designs,
3) Colour blocking fashion options for your bridal party,
4) Customized décor pieces and
5) Anything that inspires a fun, delightful, happy LASTING memory from your wedding celebration for both you, and your guests.
Chromatherapy is going to be THE thing in 2023 bridefriends, and your OHD girls say it's time to start colouring outside the lines 😉

8 YEARS of OHD 🥳
On this day in 2014, OHD opened its doors for the very first time. It's surreal to look back and see how far we've come together ❤️
And by TOGETHER, we mean the hugest thank you :
🌸 To our team mates, for the constant laughs in the office, and the sister culture of empowerment and support that we all uphold and fiercely protect, above all else.
🌸 To our network of incredible suppliers and vendors who have helped us produce our weddings over the years. For the exceptional service that you deliver, and for making it possible for our designs to match our clients' dream days so perfectly. It takes a VILLAGE to pull off a high-end wedding, and we know that you all put your blood, sweat, and tears into meeting our deadlines and making things beautiful for us.
🌸 Most importantly, to our clients (past, present, and future) who we love so much and who give us the strength to dig deep when weeks are hard. We would not be where we are today, if it weren't for ALL of our #ohdbride and grooms who have been there for us since 2014, trusted us during a 2 year pandemic, and continue to believe in us.
Happy birthday to OHD 🎂 and to all of you who make us who we are, we say thank you, from the bottom of our hearts.
Let’s talk wedding shoes!
…because who even are you, if you don’t have the same shoe obsession as the rest of us?
Wedding shoes are a matter of personal style and choice, and could make or break how comfortable you are on your special day. When it comes to selecting your shoe style, consider your dress style first (or seek out the advice of your designer or boutique if you’re feeling a little stuck). There are a few fun options we would suggest when it comes to your choice.
- The pointy high heeled diamante-detailed shoe would pair well with a glamourous wedding gown;
- The simple yet sophisticated heel or strappy sandal for a high fashion bride who’s wanting to be understated at the same time;
- The low, block heel, (tip: ask your dress designer or tailor to cover your favourite pair in matching material if you can’t find a pair you like) – for the bride who can’t wear heels but doesn’t want to wear flats on her wedding day;
- Espadrilles or wedge for the boho beach or safari bride;
- A pair of comfy flats, trainers or sneakers would work beautifully for a low-key bride who chooses comfort first
Designer shoe inspiration can be just that, inspiration. Once you have an idea of the style you like, start searching online or at shoe shops. You could also ask your dress designer if they’d be willing to customise your own pair of heels to match your dress or ask your floral designer to add some floral details to your heels for that picture perfect look.
They say that "shoes maketh the woman". They can also make or break your wedding day, too. So besides looking amazing, they need to feel amazing.
After all, you’re going to be spending about ten hours in them, so best they be comfy! After you’ve bought your favourite pair, we suggest spending week or two before the big day ‘breaking them in’ (an hour or two a day is perfect). Sure they may be uncomfy to begin with, but rather that than not being able to dance on your wedding day.

Every bride needs a little bridal kit bag for her wedding day. In most instances, it's put together by the retinue to take any extra pressure off the bride 😉 (hint, hint).
We've put together a list of OHD essentials that we know come in handy at almost EVERY wedding we do.
Here's the lowdown:
- tissues
- stain remover sticks or wipes
- lipstick
- mascara
- blotting paper
- plasters
- a small nail file
- your chosen fragrance, try get a sample or decant into a travel bottle
- a compact mirror
- setting powder (ours doubles as both a mirror and powder)
- mints
- hairspray
- painkillers
- safety pins
- cotton buds (handy for fixing makeup)
- bobby pins
Save this for your special day and send it on to your bridal party, so that they know what to put together for you (bonus: one less thing for you - the bride - to worry about) ❤️
PS. Think we missed something? 🤔 Let us know in the comments below if you think there's anything else we need to add to our list.
Aaaand, GO!
It's not often that one of our own OHD planners get's to plan her own dream day! Not only that, but she walked down the aisle to a song that SHE sang and recorded for her groom (which is what you're all listening to, right now). How special? ❤️
Our beautiful and talented @jen_rattray and @chris_dmendonca89 were married at Olwandle on the 7th of May and we are still swooning over their beautiful boho wedding. According to Jen, it was everything she could have wished for, and more. We thought this would be a great opportunity for our bridefriends to ask Jen anything wedding-related that might help you all with your own wedding planning journeys (advice, vendors, timelines, etc) - SO HERE'S YOUR CHANCE!
Pop your questions in the comments below.
PS: Have a hat at your wedding - it's a whole vibe. 😍
