The company was founded in July 1992, commencing operations with four contracts in the Eastern Cape and KwaZulu-Natal. More than 25 years later, Itakane t/a Capitol Caterers is now proudly the preferred cont

ract catering partner to over 100 clients within South Africa. From humble beginnings at our Pietermaritzburg Head Office, the company today employs in excess of 1400 personnel with an extended footprint in Durban, Cape Town, Eastern Cape, Johannesburg, Bloemfontein and Eswatini. Group CEO Merrill King heads up the company and is supported by joint Managing Directors, Russell Nzimande and Laura Morton. All bring a unique skill set to the company, Merrill as an award-winning Executive Chef and Russell and Laura as industry specialists in operations and contract catering. Merrill previously held the position of joint Managing Director and earlier as Group Executive Chef. Her penchant for the quality of food on the plate, expertise and passion for service excellence ensures that innovative and nutritious meals consistently meet the divergent needs of the company’s clients. Russell joined the company in its infancy as an Assistant Catering Manager and steadily progressed through the ranks of Catering Manager, Area Manager and Operations Manager. He was appointed an Executive Director in 2009 and joint Managing Director in 2017. Her culinary skills and attention to detail in managing the demands of multiple industrial catering units afforded her valuable experience in various operational roles. She was appointed joint Managing Director in March 2020. The executive team is complemented by Janet Mill (Human Resources Director), Vaughan Robinson (Procurement Director) and Russell Tredway (Financial Director).

A huge congratulations to Kirsten and her amazing team for orchestrating a truly beautiful evening to celebrate the Drakensburg Boys Choir leavers! 👏

Crispy shrimp fritters served with zesty lime mayo for starters, tender beef fillet with roasted fennel and thyme butter for mains and for dessert, a sweet treat trio for parents and a special, musical delight for the boys.

What a perfect way to celebrate such a memorable occasion!

Capitol Caterers Dietitian, Raeesah Nakhooda, along with the staff, had the privilege of attending a halaal seminar and awards ceremony hosted by the Halaal Council, NIHT. A special shoutout to Salma Dladla for her remarkable achievement in completing a course in food safety and hygiene management, as well as her dedicated service as the halaal representative at Eden Gardens Hospital. Congratulations, Salma! 👏🌿

This past week, we celebrated Nutrition Awareness Week, focusing on encouraging our community to make healthier choices for improved well-being.

The Capitol Caterers 24hr HotBox is a definite favourite amongst our runners - particularly the donuts served in the afternoon on Day 1 🍩

Runners can be seen queuing outside the HotBox to secure their bite of deep fried goodness before retiring to the Kaelo chill zone for some yoga and a history talk.
