HAPPENING NOW | Deputy Minister of International Relations, Alvin Botes, is in Bitou to meet the political leadership this morning.

Deputy Minister Botes is a District Development Model (DDM) Champion for Garden Route.

The aims to improve the coherence and impact of government service delivery with focus on 44 Districts and 8 Metros around the country as development spaces that can be used as centres of service delivery and economic development, including job creation.

It is a practical inter-governmental relations mechanism that is aimed to enable all spheres of government to work together with stakeholders on integrated planning, budgeting and implementation.

Further the DDM also aims to improve coherence and impact of government’s service delivery efforts.

PRESIDENT RAMAPHOSA TO PUBLICLY SIGN NATIONAL HEALTH INSURANCE BILL INTO LAW

President Cyril Ramaphosa will on Wednesday, 15 May 2024, publicly sign into law the National Health Insurance (NHI) Bill which directs the transformation of the South Africa’s health care system to achieve universal coverage for health services and, through this, overcome critical socio-economic imbalances and inequities of the past.

The signing ceremony will take place at the Union Buildings, Pretoria, at 14h00.

Hopes have flared up at the Victoria Street disaster site after the rescue teams have found a person alive under the rubble at the disaster site. He is a tiler.
He is communicating with the rescuers.
Head of Western Cape Disaster Management Colin Deiner said they will be trying to get water to him as soon as possible. They found him while working their way through the layers of concrete.
They think he is on the third floor.
The tiler said he has weight on his legs, which is a concern and two surgeons have been brought in.

Premier Alan Winde said it's a miracle. It is now 116 hours after the collapse.

Bitou Municipality Executive Mayor, Councillor Claude Terblanche, and the municipality at large express their condolences to the families and colleagues of the workers who tragically lost their lives in the building collapse in George.

Our thoughts and prayers are with everyone affected by this heartbreaking incident.
“Bitou stands in solidarity with the George Municipality community during this difficult time and offer our support as they navigate the aftermath of this tragedy,” said Councillor Terblanche.

“May the families find strength and comfort, and may the souls of the departed rest in peace,” he added.

Media Update : George Municipality confirms that as of 05:15 this morning, 7 May, a total of four (4) patients have been declared deceased.

Twenty-four (24) patients have been removed from the rubble of the collapsed multi-story construction site at 75 Victoria Street, leaving fifty-one (51) persons unaccounted for.

Note: Should any member of the public wish to provide drinking water, Lucozade, wine gums, or any food for the emergency services while they are on site – kindly deliver to the tent site via Ivy Street at 79 Victoria Street, Delplan Consulting which is being manned by Gift of the Givers and Herman Pienaar of LoveGeorge.
