A photo speaks a thousand words. Thank you Sean MacFie from SMacPix for capturing this moment. This was a MiWay Wally Hayward Marathon 2024 last year. Running or sports in general has always been apart of my life and this is the moment Alfie Venter qualified for and ran his 10th Comrades Marathon. Alfie had been struggling all year and this was the last opportunity to do it. We fought and won and today he is returning for his 11th in his green number.

For me the best part about running is the chance you get to help someone struggling and helping them to finish, this for me is way better than pushing for a time. Maybe it is all the years in the past racing as a youngster, it is a case of been there done that, now it is time to give back to the sport we all love.

I am totally blown away. Christmas came early for me yesterday. My new shipment of New Balance arrived with Bruno Sottocorona. A huge thank you to both Bruno and Craig Cynkin from The Sweat Shop for looking after me. I will be sorted for a while, that it for sure.

A great day yesterday having some fun at the start of the Benoni Northerns Marathon. Thank you Sean MacFie from SMacPix for the photo.

Every year brings challenges in different shapes and forms. This year with the sudden passing of a fierce competitor on the road running side, Pete van der Merwe lost his battle to cancer. With the hole Pete left in the industry we have inherited a lot of his work and I spend most weekends behind the microphone doing what we love.

But with that comes the challenges to my long runs, but on Tuesday morning I woke up and thought, those are just excuses. So I decided, I will do what it takes to get to the start line of Comrades Marathon 2024.

I did my first official training run this morning and have a long way to go to qualify, I am over weight, had a medical scare late last year and another year older, but makes it more of a challenge.

I have decided as I always do, to raise money for a charity again this year, I don't want my suffering to be in vain if it can benefit someone else. I have opted for the CHOC charity. If we can give a child any hope than it is all worth it.

Follow my journey as I prepare to line up for the 15th time at Comrades.
