The Doors Nightclub’s Story
The DOORS Nightclub opened for the first time on the 3rd March 1990. Marshall Street in Johannesburg would never be the same again as it was into the hub of the Alternative
/Rock/Metal/Grunge/Gothic scene for most of a decade. Many may have wondered if this club that catered for what is essentially a specialised market was going to last, but the continuous flow of free entrance comps, bar specials, album launches, promotions, professional staff and permanent party atmosphere secured its success among club goers for the 26 years to follow. In addition to this popularity The DOORS Nightclub also hosted many numbers of live acts. International - Seether, The Mission, New Model Army, Entombed, At the Gates, Cryogenic, Krabathor, Mortification , Razorlight, Sigue Sigue Sputnik & more......and local - Springbok N**e Girls, The Narrow, Parlatones, Wonderboom, Squeal, Tweak, Sugardrive, Agro, Retribution Denied, Urban Assalt & so many more.....
Due to the demise of the inner CBD area The DOORS Nightclub decided to move premises to Edenvale holding its last Marshall St. party on Saturday 24th October 1998, which although a risk of losing its patronage did so and opened a new chapter on Friday 30th October 1998 this in no way disrupted the popularity of the club but instead helped it grow in stature to an icon and institution within the South African alternative/rock music scene and clubs nation wide. It was now time for the next generation to experience the ultimate in the nightclubbing for another 19 years. Through these years The DOORS Nightclub become one of the greatest and oldest existing clubs worldwide with patrons near and far globally.
Unfortunately as all great things nothing lives forever and the club closed its doors in August of 2015. However The DOORS Nightclub continues with satellite pop up events around Johannesburg on a monthly basis rocking into its 29th year.....and as a true legend will never die!
