RiSA congratulates Grammy winners Nomcebo Zikode, Zakes Bantwini and Wouter Kellerman.

It was a big night for South African music at the 65th Annual Grammy Awards as Bayethe, the single by Nomcebo Zikode, Wouter Kellerman and Zakes Bantwini, won the Best Global Music Performance.

Held in Los Angeles, US, and hosted by South African comedian Trevor Noah, the Grammy Awards made history as dance music maestro Zakes Bantwini, and supreme vocalist of Jerusalema fame Nomcebo Zikode, received their first Grammys, while Kellerman, a revered flutist earned his second.

Having earned their recognition on home soil through the SA Music Awards (SAMAs) with multiple nominations and wins the Grammy is further validation of their talents. Nomcebo received International Achievement Recognition for Jerusalema with Master KG and was nominated for Female Artist of the Year and Best Dance Album for Xola Moya Wam’ and Record of the Year for Jerusalema at SAMA27.

Zakes won Best Collaboration and SAMRO Highest Airplay Composers award for Osama featuring Kasango and was nominated in six categories including Male Artist of the Year and Album of the Year for Ghetto King at last year’s SAMA. In SAMA16 he was nominated for Music Video of the Year for Juju featuring Black Coffee and at SAMA17 and in SAMA17 nominated for Album of the Year for Love, Light and Music among others.

Kellerman has been on a winning streak at the SAMA since SAMA16 in categories such as Best Instrumental Album and Best Producer for albums Winds of Samsara, Love Language and In A Different Light. At SAMA26 he won Best Classical/Instrumental Album for We’ve Known All Times.

RiSA CEO Nhlanhla Sibisi shared his congratulations: “This is the power of collaboration on display. It is key to the growth and development of South African music. We are proud of Nomcebo, Zakes and Wouter for flying the South African flag so high. It is always a moment of celebration when one of us does well internationally.
