This phenomenon continues to this day.
In a letter written to John Elton by lighthouse keeper John Duthie dated 12 November 1882, the keeper said “The inner wall of the lighthouse is in a very dilapidated condition. The soda-like substance formerly taken off the wall has today to a great extent decreased, but the plaster is blistering and falling off in large flakes, leaving bare stone in some parts. In fact, the plaster is quite rotten and comes off like dirty sand when touched”.

Autumn Coastal Clean Up

Please join us for a Coastal Clean Up on Sunday 21st April from 9am, bring the family, friends and give the dog a walk while doing some good for the environment.

We will have collection points and bags available at Grannies Pool, The Lighthouse / Nevermind and The Wild Side so come past, collect a bag then drop it off when full.

These events are really important to keep our coastline and beaches clean for all to enjoy.

There will also be a special Eco Kids event at The Lighthouse with games and prizes, all related to the clean up. Please look out for further information on the Eco-Kids event which will be shared on our FB Page!
