THE DOMINO EFFECT & THE IMPORTANCE OF CLAPPING FOR OTHERS... UNCONDITIONALLY

A year ago I had the honour of DJ duties at Thomas & Celine's wedding (22.09.2023)... about a month later I got a couple of enquiries from a few guests who were in attendance. Four bookings were secured from that 1 wedding:

Throughout my career, I've had a lot of clients, friends, strangers and other vendors recommending my services to would-be clients. THANK YOU.

I have a simple philosophy : I am definitely not the best at what I'm doing, there are those who are way better than me, but they are not the competition. I simply give MY best and consistently try to beat MY best... THAT'S my competition.

BACKTRACK...
While out for dinner 2 days before Thomas & Celine's wedding, I noticed a group of ladies having what seemed like a themed party.

I enquired from the waitron what was going on. She told me it was a bachelorette party. I sent over a bottle of champagne. My companion asked why I did that. I responded by saying weddings are special and she's probably celebrating with friends she's not seen in years. I also knew that she probably had her own DJ or MC, but I was still happy for her.

Unbeknownst to me, the group that was celebrating that night, was Celine and her friends.

❤️ WEDDING SERVICE PROVIDERS ❤️

As you can probably guess, I get many requests from 3rd party service providers like photographers, MUA's, bridal boutiques, DJ's etc. to recommend them to my clients. However, I always decline, because by recommending some of them, by implication I do not recommend others, and I don't feel comfortable with that.

I know it is common to give commission for a referral, and I have no problem with that principle, but I don't want to do that, for 3 reasons : Firstly, I have never made use of any of these service providers myself - I have merely observed them providing a service to others. Secondly, it is often the client that pays for this additional overhead. And thirdly, I would prefer to give referrals, not sell them.

So, my solution to this dilemma is to compile a list of service providers, which I will then send to both existing and prospective clients.
