For the experienced fly fishermen, the cool headwaters of the Upper Ndawana River await your attention.

Typical of a farmhouse, you will find a well equipped kitchen and sprawling living rooms, made up of a separate lounge, separate dining room and a cosy bar.

For those who know KHAYA, he is calm, caring and gentle by nature, quick with a smile and always ready to lend a helping hand at REDVERSDALE

But what you might not know ~

His name means ‘our home’

He walks 3km to work each day (the distance between and our home)

He arrives at work mentally, physically and spiritually prepared for the day and is a deserving recipient of lots of warm welcomes from everybody!

We are looking forward to getting back onto an even keel .. we’ve had some pretty narly seas to navigate of late! The gale force winds that fueled the raging veld fires during the last long weekend (9 August), a severe snow storm this past long weekend (24 September) resulting in 11 (ELEVEN) days of no electricity at all for the duration of the entire school holidays .. BUT, as sure as spring follows winter, so too is a summer saturated in sunshine,
drowning in rushing rivers,
illuminated with lush leafiness and rainbow stained skies,
waiting in the wings,
hopefully with some very capable technicians to restore our P⚡️O⚡️W⚡️E⚡️R

On the banks of the NGWAGWANE RIVER :

Basking in the afterglow of the magical snow dump that has quenched our rivers and streams and given life to our parched soils -
we exhale the stress of last weekend’s blizzards and blisters,
watering and feeding livestock,
broken branches and blocked roads,

… we are proud places of peace and tranquility.
Who cares that we still don’t have electricity ?

Eskom are still working tirelessly to restore electricity to our entire district - one line at a time.

Heartfelt thanks go to our guests who have honoured their holiday bookings and embraced the situation;
turned off their cellphones and wholeheartedly devoted their time and energy to being truly present with their loved ones ❤️⚡️❤️⚡️❤️⚡️❤️

In essence, we are all about going that extra country mile south of Underberg, and about taking the roads less traveled - only to discover both the beautiful Ndawana and Ngwagwane River valleys.
Home to Valley Lakes just off the R617

Surely, there can be nothing beyond those distant peaks... is that the end of the world?

No. There is more. Once you have driven through the Ngwangwane river valley and crossed the ridge at Kingscote, you will have entered East Griqualand and left the Umzimkulu river catchment behind. You are now in the headwaters of the Umzimvubu river, which spills into the Indian ocean a couple of hundred kilometers downstream, at Port St. Johns.

This picture is of Route 617, heading southwest from Underberg to Swartberg, Franklin, Kokstad and Matatiele. Probably one of the most remote and scenic routes in all of Africa.

Famous for yielding the biggest c**k fish yet, hence its name, fisherfolk can choose to fish the early or the evening rise in the lakeshore cove on the 60 hectares of still water (accessible by 4x4 only),

While your backup trail-tracking and back-packing friends and family can pack snacks and enjoy a brisk morning walk or an evening stroll and join you there (only 1.5km) ~~~~
