Birthday shout out! And so we get to my toughest but also my favourite birthday shout-out from each year, because my all-time favourite person needs an extra special shout-out.

People often ask me how I met my various team members, and I must say, my story with Pypie is probably one of my favourites: so one night, back in 2018, I was browsing Facebook and reading comments on some photography posts when a comment caught my attention of some cocky sounding girl that I had never heard of. So I did what any normal person would do and DMd her to tell her just how wrong she was, she called me an as***le, I said I fully agree but I don’t see how that makes her comment any more accurate and 6 years later here we are…I’ll admit I have zero recollection what her comment was, but if I had to make an educated guess…it was more than likely 100% accurate, because if I know one thing about Pypie, it’s that she truly does not make mistakes and she’s rarely ever wrong (wow, I can’t wait for her to start gloating about me finally admitting that).

If I had to describe Pyper-Leigh Pringle in two words it would be “criminally underrated”. As both her roommate (and the person that shares an office with her), I can safely say that I’ve spent quite a bit of time with her over the last few years, I’ll further say that there is no person I’ve ever met for whom I have a deeper admiration.
The truth is Pyper takes almost nothing for herself (well, except on her hair, wow she spends a lot of time on her hair), day in and day out she sits by her desk often until 1 or 2 in the morning, editing not only her own considerable workload but also that of 2 (and sometimes 3) other teams, when she’s not doing that she’s helping me with admin, and with more videos than I’d be willing to admit in public. She gives away more of her salary every month than most people will donate in a lifetime, helps me out with every charity event I get us involved in…the list just goes on and on, and for all that, she gets very few “thank you’s”, she gets very few because it simply isn’t something she demands. Most of the things she does she does in silence, never boasting and never putting herself in the forefront of anything, most of the things she does that makes her spectacular, she just considers normal or not even worth mentioning.
Well, today I would like to break that trend, because even if she feels she doesn’t need to hear it, I want her to know how much she is appreciated and that nothing she does ever goes unnoticed.
My dearest Pypie, my best friend, and my equal in this company (hell, who am I kidding, Boland could afford to lose me more than it could afford to lose you) every single day I appreciate you, everything you do, and also just the massive impact you’ve had on my life (and so many others), both personally and professionally. Lol, the only reason I finally know how to get a photo in focus is because of you, you kept pushing me when even my actual college (that had already been paid for) called me a waste of time, because giving up is just not something you are willing to do.
Pypie is a raw talent like I’ve never encountered before. The first time I put a gimbal in her hand, it took her about 30 seconds before she became a better videographer than me; hell, I won’t even try to deny it (laughing face). Obviously, her talent for photography doesn’t even need to get mentioned, yet I will say something (before I give the impression that these gifts were all just naturally handed to her) she is one of the few people I know that grasps the concept that talent isn’t always enough, so from endless hours of self studying and research she managed to turn herself into almost an encyclopedia of cameras. If anyone has a question about anything, consult Pyper first, Google second, and that is a product of sheer dedication.

The reality is, if Pyper ever left Boland, we would sink. That is not me sucking up to her, it is an absolute fact. Every person that’s joined our team in the last 5-years was only able to do so due to the contributions of Pyper. When they say that any employee is replaceable in a workplace, I can say with 100% confidence that Pypie never needs to have that fear, because not only is she not replaceable, but she is, literally, the glue that holds this place together. I can’t promise her that everyone else realizes this, but for what little it’s worth: I do.

Pypie, you are the best friend and roommate I ever could have asked for, even if you almost never wash your own dishes or do your own laundry…two things, I am admittedly so happy about, because (1) you had to have at least one flaw, and (2) - the actual reason - by being able to do those little things for you, I am at least given one chance a day to do something in return for everything you do for me, a list that I could never all mention or equal. I will admit that, sometimes, having you in my life can be incredibly intimidating as you set bars for yourself that no other person will ever be able to live up to, and I long ago stopped lying to myself that I’ll ever be able to match, but for that, I am happy just always being your #1 fan and biggest cheerleader.

Now it’s time for you to get out of bed, because Mew Mew and I have a very special birthday surprise set up for you downstairs, and as we’ve both been super excited for this for a while, so let’s start celebrating what I genuinely consider to be the most important day of the year.
