The annual Mdumbi Green Fair is more than just a music festival! It is a an event designed solely to grow job opportunities, impart skills and develop talent within the rural Mankosi community in which it is held as well as to promote and preserve the local forests.
The purpose of the event is five-fold:
to provide a platform for local aspiring artists and performers to showcase their talents and ignite dreams,
to promote the Xhosa culture (the “Fair” side) and
to rehabilitate the coastal forests in the area (The “Green” side).
Come join and know that by merely attending, that you are helping to make a huge difference in the lives of those that need it most!
The Festival will WOW! you with a musical mix of genres from some of Mzansi’s best up and coming Musical Acts as well as some Headliners that culminate in a 3-day experience like no other.
Main features of the festival include:
• An eco stage set in the forest at the majestic Mdumbi Point with a backdrop of the entire bay setting the scene for a weekend of music, dancing, community and fun.
• Headline Artists from around South Africa will be announced soon...
• Other performances include traditional Xhosa dancing , stick fighting, fire dancing, circus acts and DJ’s until early mornings
• Not only does the festival provide a feast for the eyes and the soul, we got your bellies covered too! The festival will have a variety of handcrafted food stall offering delicious cuisines to cater for vegetarians and carnivores alike! From traditional Xhosa food to falafel wraps and salads in a jar, as well as spit roast buns and curry bunny chows! The traditional burger and chips will of course make an appearance, but maybe not in the way you expect…
• workshops like drumming, fire-poi and stick fighting would be available as well as activities such as surfing, kayaking, cultural hikes and ocean safari boat trips
• Paying guests will have the opportunity to join in the eco activities by planting an indigenous tree in a pre-dug and fertilised hole. Planting trees in the area will help to reestablish the forest and dramatically enhance it as a tourist attraction.
