Here's a classic Swedish meatballs recipe for you:
Ingredients:
- 1 kg ground beef
-500g ground pork
- 1/2 cup fresh breadcrumbs
- 1/4 cup milk
- 1 small onion, finely chopped
- 1 egg
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1/4 teaspoon ground allspice
- 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- Salt and pepper, to taste
- 2 tablespoons butter
- 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
- 2 cups beef broth
- 1 butter
- 1/2 cup heavy cream
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
- Fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)
Instructions:
1. In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground beef, ground pork, breadcrumbs, milk, chopped onion, egg, minced garlic, allspice, nutmeg, salt, and pepper. Mix until well combined.
2. Shape the mixture into medium meatballs.
3. In a large skillet, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the meatballs and cook until browned on all sides, about 8-10 minutes. Transfer the meatballs to a plate and set aside.
4. In the same skillet, sprinkle the flour over the remaining butter and cook, stirring constantly, for 1-2 minutes to make a roux.
5. Gradually whisk in the beef broth, scraping up any browned bits from the bottom of the skillet. Cook until the sauce thickens, about 5 minutes.
6. Stir in the heavy cream and Worcestershire sauce. Return the meatballs to the skillet and simmer for an additional 10-15 minutes, or until the meatballs are cooked through and the sauce is thick and creamy.
7. Taste and adjust seasoning with salt and pepper if needed.
8. Serve the Swedish meatballs hot, garnished with chopped parsley. Enjoy as a main dish with mashed potatoes or ice, and steamed vegetables on the side.
These Swedish meatballs are sure to be a hit at your dinner table!
