We all know that some of our best ideas often come from having a chat over a cuppa at the kitchen table. For 24-year-old Ally Finlay and her mum Janine, it was the prospect of drought settling in that prompted them to start brainstorming new revenue streams for their family farm, Verona. Located 55 kilometres west of Stanthorpe on Queensland’s Southern Darling Downs, the Finlays run 1500 Dorper sheep and a handful of Droughtmaster cows on the 3,643-hectare mixed grazing property, but now they are moving into tourism — Verona Country Escape. The Finlays have opened the gate to this beautiful working sheep station to paying guests and offer guided bush walking, yoga sessions, paddock picnics and winery tours. Today in the Graziher Weekly, Ally chats to us about the journey. ⁠

Ask the question..

WHY DO CELEBRANTS CHARGE WHAT THEY DO AND THEY ARE ALL DIFFERENT?

There is no Industry Standard for fees (other than what the Registry Office Charges, and that can be misleading because they are required to provide a legal service at an affordable price to fulfil a government obligation and continue a program they are legally responsible for).

There is also no Industry Standard Method for determining celebrant fees.

There is also no mechanism in place to accurate compare the quality of celebrant services provided.

So, if you are wondering why it so hard to objectively assess whether a particular celebrant is worth their fee, you're not on your own.

What there is is Competition, and Myths, particularly the "I’m the better celebrant because I charge more" myth, or the ""I charge what I'm worth"" myth, or the one I find most difficult to swallow"the myth that couples who pay more value their celebrant more"

There is nothing wrong with getting married on a tight budget. And how much you are willing to pay your celebrant is not a simple matter of how many dollars, but what does that number of dollars mean in relation to what you earn and what you have in your wedding kitty.

This is a topic I've written a lot about for celebrants. It's worth sharing with couples because having an idea about the possible motivations behind the methodology different celebrants use could help you feel comfortable about what you've decided to spend.

One of the perks of being a celebrant, you get to check out the venues, if they have options to continue from the ceremony to the reception (without the guests having to move on from ceremony location to the reception location), staff attitude and their service. The Grove Rooftop has it all!! The staff were fantastic! The venue is perfect And what a view! wow! Rachel Leah Beautiful Wedding 💕
